The last game of the season for many schools is against a major in-state rival. This year's games include:

Texas Tech/Texas
Miss/Miss St
Oregon/Oregon St
Washington/Washington St
Alabama/Auburn
Clemson/South Carolina
UCLA/USC
Florida/Florida St
Georgia/Georgia Tech
Virginia/Virginia Tech
Kansas/Kansas St
Oklahoma/Oklahoma St
South Florida/Central Florida
(And not exactly newsworthy, but even Louisiana-Monroe/Louisiana-Lafayette, FAU/FIU, and Central Michigan/East Michigan are on the list).

There's also end of season major rivalries not in-state, but are still considered in most years to be the biggest game of these teams' seasons, such as:
Ohio State/Michigan
Army/Navy

The past 10 years (including this one), our final games of the regular season have been against:

2013 Maryland
2012 BC
2011 Maryland
2010 Maryland
2009 UNC
2008 Miami
2007 Maryland
2006 ECU
2005 Maryland
2004 ECU

Only 2 were in-state opponents, and 5 were against Maryland who is not a major rival nor will even be in the conference next year. If we're going to even bother having ECU on the schedule, they should be the last game since Wake and UNC will always be unavailable.

The last 3 weeks should just be Tobacco Road matchups for all 4 schools involved, and let there be an "In-State Champion" every year.

It will never happen, but I think it would be great to see.

Especially this year. With such impressive in state programs what a feather in your cap to call yourself the best team in North Carolina in 2013/2014!

^^Thanks for catching that but still, 3 out of the last 10 isn't good enough when all these other "University of ________ vs ________ State University" games are all happening annually on the same day.

^Yes, Duke vs UNC and the almighty "Battle for Southern Private School Mediocrity" that is Wake Forest vs Vanderbilt, which is why:

I'm pointing out that we're completely left out of the most exciting weekend of the regular season (although the Army/Navy and OK/OK State games are the next weekend but still those teams' closers). There's no way we get any attention when there's all those great matchups. Even the amazing 27 point comeback against Maryland in 2011 was barely noticed.

I don't understand why the ACC thinks Duke vs UNC is a better draw than State vs UNC in any sport that isn't Basketball or Lacrosse. We should play UNC the last game of every season.

FWIW, TOB made a stink in 09 when UNC was scheduled last, due to the game not having any bearing on the Division. Not sure if Doeren cares one way or the other though. I sure as fuck don't.

TOB would've preferred to play Wake as the final game of the season, when 5th place in the Atlantic was up for grabs

I thought there was an award every year for the state school with the most wins against other state schools called the Mack Brown Award.

To be honest, State vs. North Carolina would still get lost on
Rivalry weekend with all the other games like Clemson/South Carolina,
Oregon/Oregon State, Georgia/Georgia Tech. etc. The
Last weekend of the season is already slammed with premier games and that game would just get
Lost. If anything, having the State/UNC game on a "slow" weekend would allow for more attention.

don't worry guys, when UNCC's football team become the state flagship, maybe they'll schedule us as a rivalry game instead of Campbell

We should play a conference game against an in-state rival in our last game.

By that I mean, we should move to the AAC and play ECU last. The ACC isn't worth staying in since we'll never win a title in this league anyway. UConn is ok with it, we should be too.
