I have heard before and I agree that a quarterback going to a smaller school or a non-powerhouse school or lower division school better translates to a more successful NFL career. This is not always the case, but it seems to make more sense and explains why the Alabama Qb's of late and the USC Qb's of the 2000's never really went anywhere; and conversely NC State has 3 starting Qb's. And before it starts shut the hell up, no need to argue whether State has 2 or 3 because of Russell Wilson; been there done that. 11/3/2013 11:40:37 PM |

the term "Veteran" is too loosely thrown around on here... 11/3/2013 11:43:00 PM |

Its funny, it seems like the term troll seems to be used too loosely with you. I know every single thread you post in at some point you are called a troll; but still some how, its still just not enough. You do know its possible to read a thread and not comment if you actually have nothing to say. 11/3/2013 11:45:33 PM |

If you look at the QBs that you can make a reasonable determination on their careers whether they were successful or not, the last national title contender QB that became successful in the NFL was Peyton Manning. After him the next most successful is probably Vince Young. 11/3/2013 11:51:39 PM |

as a center/power forward, going to Duke is not helpful 11/3/2013 11:54:25 PM |

And looking at it in the other way, there are only 5 Qb's that have won a national championship and a Super Bowl. There are 30 different Qb's that have won a Super Bowl and 5 of those have won a national championship. Namath, Stabler, Montana, Aikman, and Brady. Of those 5 only 3 were the starting quarterback. Namath, Stabler and Montana. I know winning a Super Bowl doesn't mean you are a great quarterback, but it is what is most used to equate greatness of any position. 11/3/2013 11:58:45 PM |

I did some quick research. Coack K has coached 94 different centers and power forwards. Congrats on naming two who have had moderate success 11/4/2013 12:22:24 AM |

I agree that going to small, unimportant, worthless schools is the way to go. Look at Joe Flacco, Tony Romo, and Peyton Manning.

Thats kind of the point. College players going on to have success in the NBA is a rare thing. For two guys to reach top 5 in the world at their position is quite an achievement.11/4/2013 2:37:23 AM |

Maybe the NFL doesn't take a powerhouse school's RB, OL, WRs, defense, and special teams into account when trying to evaluate a QB as an individual. 11/4/2013 7:39:40 AM |

The college game and NFL are very very different. This is why you end up with so many smaller school kids being great NFL players. Colleges generally want to win games first then worry about sending kids to the NFL. 11/4/2013 8:42:10 AM |

So how does this work? If jimmy clausen had gone to state he'd be good in the nfl? Or if Russell had gone to notre dame at first he'd be worse? Or he woulda gotten drafted higher? Or really none of it matters for shit? 11/4/2013 12:30:20 PM |

The way I see it, playing for a school that isn't championship caliber forces the QB to step up and not rely on good receivers or a solid running game.
That's why I see Cam Newton being very successful over his career, because although he won a championship, Auburn was not a powerhouse without him. Auburn's record both the year before and the year after they had Cam was 8-5...which isn't awful until you consider those years were 3-5 and 4-4 SEC records. 11/4/2013 2:03:47 PM |

clausen wouldve sucked anywhere
i do think russ's development as a QB was helped by playing here and playing at wisconsin. playing here allowed him further development of skills in an environment that largely relied on him to drive the offense, while wisconsin provided him with the opportunity to play in the NFL via exposure. that's the one thing alabama, ohio state, etc will get you. chances. trent richardson wouldve been cut by now if he came here. 11/4/2013 4:38:18 PM |
