New Warning: Morning-After Pill Doesn't Work for Women Over 176 Pounds
Quote :
"The European manufacturer of an emergency contraceptive pill identical to Plan B, also known as the morning-after pill, will warn women that the drug is completely ineffective for women who weigh more than 176 pounds, and begins to lose effectiveness in women who weigh more than 165 pounds. HRA Pharma, the French manufacturer of the European drug, Norlevo, is changing its packaging information to reflect the weight limits. European pharmaceutical regulators approved the change on November 10, but it has not been previously reported."

If true, wouldn't this also call in to question the effectiveness of daily oral contraceptives in heavier women? I think that's something that would have been noticed before now.

It has been noticed, its not a secret that birth control isn't as effective (or is not-effective) if you are overweight

I suspect birth control contributes to weight gain in the first place.

My skinny female friends have indicated that's just an excuse fat chicks use to justify their weight gain, but who's to say, really?

AHA, EightyFour's "skinny female friends" sound like real cunts.

I'm a lunatic once a month, and I've used more than a dozen different birth controls trying to "level out." They have all made me very hungry...but late night nachos definitely help keep me level.

Fat chicks should be sterilized and taken out of the gene pool. Not talking girls with just some extra cushion for the pushin. I'm talking about obese bitches.....

Now that's not very nice at all. They could very well be cunts for believing that, but what if they're just misinformed? Then what are they?

Just not true for most types of birth control (the exception being Ortho Evra). Although apparently obese women don't take the pill as regularly as normal weight women do, which could account for some of those rumors:

http://drjengunter.wordpress.com/2011/09/20/is-the-birth-control-pill-less-effective-for-overweight-and-obese-women/

Quote :
"An even more recent prospective study confirms that even obese women taking the lowest dose of birth control pill (20 mcg of ethinyl estradiol) get the same degree of ovarian suppression as women who are of normal weight: in both groups 97% do not ovulate. (2) (As an aside, understanding that 2.7% of women ovulate on the pill helps you to see the 2% failure rate)."

So don't fret about BC not being effective, at least

you can still avoid having to worry about the weight limit on Plan B

[Edited on November 25, 2013 at 6:42 PM. Reason : though they probably didn't study morbidly obese women... so I guess wrap it up if you're into BBWs]

^^^AHA But they're cunts for saying it. I mean, they might be totally right on...still not something you say, especially to a dude. In fact, it's so cunty that I have doubts as to the number of "female friends" who have actually said this to you.

For good measure, I'm gonna type cunt again.

^ I'm actually assuming that obese women aren't as careful about taking their BC because they don't have sex as often

I don't weigh more than 176

so I'm not worried

I think fat women feel the need to "skip" their birth control in order to get pregnant when given the chance to copulate in hopes of snagging a poor unsuspecting drunk from the bar to man up with them.

This happened to my old roommates friend in Wilmington. He is not exactly a prize himself but his now wife is definitely a heffer. After meeting her at a dive bar, fucking, and knocking her up "supposedly she was on BC" he decided to do the "right thing" and marry her.

Chicks also won't get their period because of high body fat as well, so you have that going for you.

that just means that you were lucky, not that it was effective. Its 0% effective in women over 176 lbs.

Every other time semen entered my vagina without birth control, I've gotten pregnant. So, I'm going to assume that the plan b most likely worked.

But yes, it's important to know it's less effective at higher weights.

It's a singular initially reported study on the European version of the drug. I think we all know how these things work. I'll accept zero once it's repeated and verified.

1) its the same thing you get here
2) the manufacturer already verified the research and duplicated the conclusions
3) there is both empirical and theoretical justification

They reviewed their clinical data. It's not the same thing as verifying results with a new study with methods and controls in place.

Not really. Most studies on the pill (not the shot or other methods) do not support the claim that it makes you gain weight. Most people put on weight as they grow older and go through puberty (aka the time when many girls begin taking the pill). I have read a few studies on how the pill may make some people more hungry, but if you choose to stuff your face then of course you're going to gain weight.

NPR reported that it is less effective at 165 and then not effective at all after 175 lbs.

but it's also important to note:

Quote :
""You are probably better to take LNG-EC after unprotected sex than just to leave it to chance even if you are obese," Glasier said.

"When faced with a choice ... I don't think the findings are strong enough for us to tell women that they should not use LNG-EC," Cleland agreed. "Because Plan-B One Step is now available over-the-counter and is by far the easiest EC method to get, this is the method that most women are familiar with."

Cleland recommends overweight women who are worried about the pill's effectiveness use an emergency contraceptive with ulipristal acetate, or a copper IUD. IUDs, or intrauterine devices, can be inserted by a doctor up to five days after unprotected sex to help prevent pregnancy."
