Chris Malinchak - So Good To Me
Lxury - J.A.W.S
Disclosure - When a Fire Starts to Burn (I mean really I could list the whole album here)
CHVRCHES - The Mother We Share
HAIM - Don't Save Me
Sylvan Esso - both of their songs
Volcano Choir - Byegone
Vampire Weekend - Diane Young
Kanye - Black Skinhead (though Blood on the Leaves is clearly the best song on that album)
Get Lucky obviously

I'll go ahead and copy and paste these

Sylvan Esso - both of their songs
Volcano Choir - Byegone
Vampire Weekend - Diane Young
Kanye West- Black Skinhead (I'm ok with throwing in Bound 2 since he did make a video for it)

and add these:

Miley Cyrus- We Can't Stop
Hospitality- I Miss Your Bones

Arctic Monkeys - Do I Wanna Know?
Avenged Sevenfold - Hail to the King
Bastille - Pompeii
New Politics - Harlem
Avicii - Wake Me Up
Paramore - Still into You (as much as I want to hate this song, I just can't)

Rolling Stone hasn't been musically relevant in 15+ years. The Pitchfork thing is still arguable, but Rolling Stone is not in the conversation.

there were actually a few good songs that I wasnt aware of on that list, so, while Rolling Stone has fallen way off the list isnt completely worthless. I forgot how much I liked "Young Legends" by Sleigh Bells until that list reminded me to give it another listen

my vote for song of the year is Get Lucky

I'm not a fan of it, but I have always been a sucker for when a video gets made of a song I already liked and instantly start liking the song more

I've been that way for as long as I can remember, too

same goes for hearing certain songs live

I like Instant Crush too, not sure if i like it more than Get Lucky, but was it released as a single?

Is that the purpose of this thread or are we just picking out the best songs of the year, regardless of if they got airplay or not?

They don't technically do singles (but neither do a lot of bands I listen to this year). My Song of the Year is a tie between Deafheaven's "Dream House" and "The Pecan Tree", both of which were used to promote the album

Instant Crush >>> Get Lucky

Sylvan Esso - all of their songs
mikal cronin - weight

Kate Nash - Part Heart
CVURCHES - You Caught The Light
Small Black - No Stranger
Swearin' - Loretta's Flowers (though I've played Fat Chance from their old album on loop more than anything on the newest one...)

couldn't pick just one Haim song

Mikal Cronin - Shout it out

and that Sky Ferreira album, mostly for You're Not The One and Heavy Metal Heart

A handful of haters, including me, are #1 Drake fans now.

There was an inkling of it that I tried to resist, and then I decided to just let it happen.

It's been fun.
