A tablet under $100 sounds like it would be pretty shitty

Nook HD is $129. I have the previous model--It's nothing special but gets the job done. They can be rooted but I like the stock reading interface (and the thing it gets used most often for is reading magazines). Kindle fire is $139 and probably a better product. You can find both discounted if you try. Yes that's more than $100 but you get a new product with warranty and without dealing with used items and private-party sales.
