Was going to post this in the 2013 thread, but figured we might as well go ahead and get the 2014 thread fired up.

Mets sign Bartolo Colon to 2 yr/20 mill deal and Curtis Granderson to 4 yr/60 mill deal.

I'm a fan of both of these moves, although we're obviously not suddenly contenders in the NL, but I think these two moves are a step in the right direction.

Too bad Harvey will miss 2014. A rotation of Harvey, Colon, Wheeler, Niese, and Gee would be really solid.

It'll be interesting to see how the NL East shakes out next year. The Nats have made some nice moves this offseason including raping the Tigers for Fister. They'll be the favorites to reclaim the division. The Braves have only gotten worse by losing McCann and Hudson, but if they can land Samardzija or Price, then they'll be right back in contention although they still have Uggla and BJ Upton I guess they signed Gavin Floyd today so we'll see if they move makes any difference at all.

The Phils keep signing old people for their old team, but they have Hamels and Lee as of now so they cannot be completely discounted although I think and hope they suck ass. The Mets have made themselves better for 2014, but I am not sure how much better. The Marlins got Saltalamacchia for some reason. They have a dominant #1 and will probably be a lot better than anyone expects like usual.

Valverde at 36 is the youngest Mets pitcher to throw tonight lol.

[Edited on April 8, 2014 at 10:24 PM. Reason : Colon and Farnsworth pitched tonight as well]

Matt Harvey is fantastic and the NY media is atrocious.

Let's just end the season today so the Mets can make the playoffs.

Granderson's bat seems to finally be coming around. Chris Young is hitting the ball well, too.

Juan Lagares seems to have solidified himself as an everyday outfielder.

Only 1 game out of the playoffs.

I also saw (can't find the tweet right now) where Mets pitchers are something like 0-50 batting to start the season.

Hard to see it but this team is going to be stacked, especially with arms starting nex year.

Already playng good ball recently but once Harvey was out next year was always going to be the one we contend.

The rotation is pretty damn good this year...and that's without Harvey. Need more consistent bats, but I'm excited about the future.

So I think we made the right decision to go with Duda at 1B. He homered again today.

7 wins in last 10 games. Only 6.5 out of the wild card with 18 games left to play...

I don't expect that to happen but it would be really cool if it did.

to be honest, i pretty much completely blocked baseball out and haven't been paying attention at all the last couple of months. if it weren't for my twitter feed, i'd have 0 knowledge about baseball current events.

in short, the mets have made me apathetic.

Won again but Wright is out for the rest of the season. That doesn't leave much to hope for. I could still see a miracle run to get into the playoffs, but no way they get very far.

If we can get some offense, we should be fine the next few years. That rotation is going to be great. But we gotta get some bats in the lineup.

Lol playoffs was never happening and still isn't. This year was never about that once Harvey went down. It was about young pitching and figuring out the middle of the diamond (C, 2B/SS and CF).

They desperately need to spend some money on a bat or use guys like Syndergaard (can't believe he isn't up and pitching here) to acquire one since the FA market is shit this year...

** also they need Harvey to be an ace right away. Middle and back of the rotation are great but we need that anchor

Now 9 wins out of the last 12 games.

Even if the playoffs are a long shot, this is getting me pretty excited for what's to come.

Me too...but then again we are the Mets so I mean I'm kinda prepared for disappointment.

By the All Star Break of the last few years I've almost completely quit paying attention...hopefully this year's different
