Anyone know of a place to buy cat5 by the foot? Trying to run some cables in my house. Do I need cat5e?

Also, could use a crimper if anyone has one. Or a recommendation of a particular one I should get.

Lowes has both. Got with cat6 if you can afford it, but no less than 5e.

do it right please. put a 12 port patch panel in the closet or whatever and punch the ends down on it. then run a patch cable.

I ended up getting a spool of belkin cat6 cable a bit cheaper from amazon (plus free prime shipping) than what monoprice had at the time.

for individual patch cables, monoprice will definitely be cheaper, but always price check against other reputable sites-- sometimes the shipping makes it not so great a deal, but typically monoprice is the best deal going.

I always leaned toward http://sewelldirect.com/ for my cabling and patch panels because of the fluke tests and sprint tests they put up on their boxes of cat5e. Plus it's US made.

I have a box of 1000ft of Cat5e and I'll probably never use all of it. I'd be glad to sell some of it if you're interested. I'm in Holly Springs.
