Quote : | "We don't have any firm details to go on, but as we reported earlier, the STI is expected to use a turbocharged, 2.5-liter boxer four producing something like 300 to 305 horsepower and 290 pound-feet of torque. (Note: The standard WRX uses a new, Forester-derived 2.0-liter engine.)" |
Nobody is going to buy this thing. With all the problems the last 2.5 engine had with ringland failures, the only reason I can see Subaru sticking with the same motor is because they need more differentiation from the WRX. And if the HP numbers are true, then its essentially the same car from last generation but uglier.1/8/2014 10:40:40 AM |

why not a better rod ratio, better head flowing, 2.0 with more boost? 1/8/2014 10:55:14 AM |

Yes we all agree this car won't sell unless it weighs less than 3000lbs or something else crazy like really it's a larger block 2.5 with longer stroke, smaller bore, offset rods and better cooling/oiling then the ej had.
Glad I got outta subarus. If they made one I could mod to 400whp and not worry about blowing the engine or tranny or both all the time I'd consider it (I had a 5 spd the 6 is a tank apparently)
I'd like to see a 3.0 flat six twin turbo or something. Considering it's now battling 450hp irs mustangs at its price point 300 just isn't gonna cut it no matter how awd the car is.
Ps it looks like last gen had intercourse with the Evo x.
Long story short

The WRX comes with basically 270 hp, so the STi better have more than just 30 hp more. How about 320?
[Edited on January 8, 2014 at 11:26 AM. Reason : Or 333... that sounds good!] 1/8/2014 11:26:01 AM |

I don't understand Subaru's fixation with 300hp for their STI. That's more or less what the STI made a decade ago. Talk about being stagnant. For the price point 10 years ago 300 hp was impressive. Faster than just about anything else for the money. But everything has gotten considerably more power and has left the STI in the dust. The Mustang GT no longer has 260 hp. Now it has 420 and will whip the everliving shit out of an STI around a track for less money. (as an example) 1/8/2014 1:04:53 PM |

^this.
absolute idiots. car made 300hp in 2004!!!! WRX have became slower and weaker and STI has changed design 76x with the same engine. the entire 3 and 5 door thing is almost as retarded as BMWs new naming convention.
no good cars out there anymore. 1/8/2014 3:10:19 PM |

I mean, if the STI had gotten lighter over the years that would be one thing. But it hasn't. 1/8/2014 3:16:59 PM |

I always figured it hovered around the 300 mark to stay close to its WRC roots
it made ~270 in its 1st generation 1/8/2014 9:22:17 PM |

Exactly...
How bout they focus on the global rally cross now since they don't even flipping race in wrc anymore. Targeting300 goes to targeting 600 and everyone is happy. 1/9/2014 7:52:08 AM |

So the car has 305 hp, debuted at the NAIAS couple of days ago
Here is Subaru America manager explaining what is new with the car, and makes sure to say "all new" several times through the video

Tires are 245's all around, which is what the previous STI had. Are you referring to something else? 1/16/2014 12:02:47 PM |

Good deal. Yeah they've been 245's for a while. Hell the base WRX has had 235's for a while too.

I only like the Wagon anyway.
On a funny note my girlfriend got a 2014 Impreza Sport Hatch. Within a week the flash engine light started blinking and only two cylinders were firing. The dealership had to call corporate and they said they've never had that happen on a new Impreza. Promptly getting a new car. 1/24/2014 5:20:56 PM |

^Yeah, I would say that's disappointing. Expected, but still disappointing.
Saw the 2015 WRX in person at Cars & Coffee. Was not impressed.
