So I've read through the DMV site some...just trying to avoid multiple trips to the DMV.
I've currently got: 1 plateless car, 1 accompanying title with notarized signatures from the sellers. The car is for my sister who hasn't signed the title yet...and my understanding is her signature doesn't need to be notarized (we will sign prior to going to the DMV).
She has her license and proof of insurance.
Do I need to print complete all these PDFs listed here: http://www.ncdot.gov/dmv/vehicle/title/? The odometer disclosure is on the title from what I can tell. Damage disclosure? Eligible Risk document?
Anything else I'm missing? 1/11/2014 4:20:16 PM |

Lol
Don't bother with all that Shit. All you need is the title. All the other "forms" are either on the back of the title, or they will handle for her at the counter. 1/12/2014 6:08:31 AM |

Yeah doing it for a car with no title can be a mofo. With a title it's cake walk. 1/12/2014 8:40:58 AM |

So the buyers signature doesn't need to be notarized right? 1/12/2014 9:46:30 AM |

It's open. I could sign my name on the back it right now and that car would belong to me. When you transfer a title, its required to have a seller and buyer signature on it. Otherwise its considered to be open or accepted in blank under N.C.G.S. 20-72. If found, its an automatic seizure of the title. 1/12/2014 3:21:49 PM |

buyer's signature does not require notarization
just take the title with signatures to the plate office. this is easy.

Isn't any title transfer between immediate family members tax-free? In that case you could have signed the title to purchase the car and then transfer the title to her later on. That could require multiple trips though.
I know it's tax free from parent to child or vice-versa, don't see why that also wouldn't apply to siblings. 1/13/2014 9:29:37 AM |

is there a link somewhere on the DMV's worthless website on how you do a Parent-to-Child title transfer (for free)? 1/22/2014 5:39:25 PM |

On the actual title there should be a section to do a transfer of ownership, but I couldn't tell you what form to use (I had moved to VA so I had to pay road use tax to register it here no matter how I had gained possession of the car, or if I had owned it previously). 1/23/2014 2:00:08 AM |

In addition to the signed and notarized title, you also need proof of insurance (dec page) and have had it inspected within the last 90 days. 1/29/2014 9:37:10 AM |
