This is actually a really good movie, if you like AI. It's more "hard" scifi than any of the scifi movies i've seen recently.

Not sure why this is taking a beating in the ratings honestly... it's 2 hours, and they perhaps could have gone more into detail of what the Singularity really is, someone not familiar with the concept may not get why what's happening is happening... and the trailers make it look worse than it is. I was pleasantly surprised.

Go see it if you like scifi.

i saw it and enjoyed it. it's pretty much tailored for folks who have a genuine interest in sci fi. anyone else though would probably hate it.

^^ what exactly did they say? I can't remotely see how this movie deserves a 19% RT.

Johnny Depp doesn't give an animated performance, but he is an almost-aspie techy science guy. It fits with the persona of a high-level AI researcher.

They could have done more with the ending, but it was already condensed at 2 hrs.

Okay after reading some reviews, it seems people don't like it because they view the idea of AI and nanotechnology to be farfetched "movie ideas" whereas I perceive them as imminent technologies that in the upcoming decades will transform society and humanity, and it was exciting to see this visualized and portrayed on screen. People also couldn't relate to the stoic personalities of the main characters, who are supposed to be stoic scientists (from my perception).

I guess if you dismiss this evolution of technology as pure fantasy, then the movie will seem boring...

The criticisms of the ending and the pacing/time portrayal are accurate... there's one part where they build a building in a few months that in the real world would be a 2-3 year project...

I read a book by Micheal Crichton about nanotechnology. This was at least 12 years ago and at the time it didn't seem all that far fetched. What eventually happens with the nanotech was farfetched, but not the tech itself.

If they had of done this movie correctly, it could have been the prequel to the Matrix.

I thought it was a ok movie. I had a few hangups with some of the stupid plot points near the end.

* Like why did they motar the solar panel field when that was obviously futile and not going to stop shit. I think the girl got wounded from a shell if I remember correctly.

* It was silly that the AI could not heal her at the end. It was like, I can do one or the other but not both. bullshit.
