Liverpool and Chelsea have easy groups to progress through with the latter not dropping a point. Arsenal should progress though possible second.

Sorry again Ajax. They must have the worst luck in Europe.

Basel is pretty good so advancing will still be tough. I'm pleased with the draw for a team coming out of Pot 3 though.

Great tie for Schalke last night against Bayern München. And Dortmund is getting Kagawa?

Nice, things are looking up for the Ruhrgebiet.

Sterling is so good... and Arsenal legend Danny Welbeck puts England up. Also I find Leighton Baines highly overrated as a defender. Would rather have Shaw fit. Without Terry and Gerrard and with guys like Sterling I find England so much more likeable.

I guess Euro qualifying should go here...

not comparing Terry and Gerrard as people btw, just mean as a unit I like a more mobile midfield diamond

Now get rid of Hodgson and perhaps the team will be decent again.

got to see an Atletico Madrid match against SD Eibar while I was in Spain. what an atmosphere and an awesome match with Atletico winning 2-1 but not before an 89th minute equalizer missed a foot wide.

^Oh hey our group was in Spain at that time too! Saw Barcelona take on the European powerhouse of Elche. Messi scored two, got that mark checked on the bucket list!

Would have loved to see that Eibar match, that goal by Miniero was pretty awesome. Eibar has a great back story coming into this La Liga season as well. They almost didn't make it, despite fairly qualifying to La Liga.

awesome! yeah, both Barca teams were travelling during our time there. Would have like to seen Real, but the Atletico experience was awesome. It felt so blue collar and gritty and the entire stadium was into it. I'll post some pics once i make my album public.

haha yea atletico fans are definitely admirable. As NC State fans I am sure we can relate to being the other team in a region dominated by bigger teams. Although Atletico certainly have more success to boast about then us, especially recently. Glad you enjoyed it. Barcelona fans were loud and proud as well.

^^ I've probably only watched Isco play 5-6 full matches when I catch Madrid on BeIN, but his close control is ridiculous. I saw him break down 3 guys with 2 touches a week or two ago that was absolutely beautiful.

James, to me, is a scorer in the sense that he isn't afraid to take on players and fits in well with Bale/Ronaldo and company when they're on the break. He wants to get in the box and finish.

Isco would have been perfect for Barca's tika taka under Pep.

Nice! Here was our view of Barcelona. Got to see Messi score two on that end. Great experience with the Catalan fans in full voice right ahead of us.

I just watched a little of the Arsenal match on replay.

Can I take a second to roast Podolski? How in the ever-living fuck can you not find your shin guard??? If I was Arsene I would have been that asshole's face screaming. It is flat out UNACCEPTABLE for any player to not be prepared to go in the game when your number is called. They're paying you millions to be completely absorbed in a 2 hour exercise once or twice a week, and here's your team down 2 goals trying to make a tactical change with time winding down and you're looking around for your equipment like a fucking idiot. He ends up having to borrow Ozil's because he never actually found it either. That's a complete lack of professionalism, and if I'm Arsene, I'm fining him tomorrow.

I shutter to think what a football coach would do if a player couldn't find his helmet on the sideline when he was supposed to go in the game. They would probably bust a blood vessel laying into that guy.

Agreed. And there is a reason he didn't make it at Bayern and is on the fringes at Arsenal. I suspect upon Theo's return Podolski will be all but gone.

Likable guy but lazy...

also, Barca looking decidedly played-out and dull.

Not terribly disappointed Arsenal are out of this competition. Midweek games in an already congested fixture list with basically no defense...
