It definitely combines a lot of what I'm interested in these types of games. I like class based games (and there are plenty to pick from) like TF2 and I really enjoy the vertical nature of Titanfall. I hope I have more luck with this beta than I have with HOTS.

Mercy is pretty cool, but her mobility is based on being around other teammates, so if you let your teammates die or they run off and you don't have someone to use guardian angel on, you are pretty much fucked if you want to go anywhere quickly.

I liked Hanzo and Widowmaker best of the ones I played. Destiny is the last FPS I've played so I'm really used to having a lot of vertical mobility and those two have ways to quickly get up high that I really liked. I think Pharah is the only other one with really good vertical mobility but I didn't play her.

It was a lot of fun. Each hero has a very specific niche in which they are very powerful but it takes using the right cooldowns at the right time to get them into correct place to really shine so the skill ceiling seems pretty high. Should be a lot of fun when it comes out.

the game play is slow and the maps are small. they need to add objectives or more team synergies for this to become a staple.

really ? I've only seen/head the opposite ... people complaining after the seagull v dev's matches that the game is complicated and moves too fast.

I wonder how big of a difference skill levels play on the pace of the game. Seagull is constantly flying around, unless he's playing junkrat of course.

was never FTP ... people assumed because of hearthstone and HOTS.... even tho every other major shooter in the history of ever has been paid.

I would say this is more akin to TF/TF2 and Counter-Strike. IIRC, these were free if you had the base game (Half-Life) and free regardless after a relatively short wait. I am probably oversimplifying that a bit.

Still, I expected Overwatch to be FTP because that model seems to print money these days. Also, the large number of characters that are ever-expanding also tends towards the unlock/pay-to-play model. They have a few good explanations for this, but I would likely bet Activision is trying to move this towards the true DLC model. Console support probably factors into that as well, though the micro-transaction model sort-of works there.

Either way, I am now unlikely to play. This is not a form of protest or anything. I just do not have a lot of time for video games. A free game I could download and play a fun match every few days would have been just up my alley, but $40 just would not be worth it for my expected use.

cs cs:go tf and tf2 were all initially paid for games.

they were never free.

granted that was 10-12 years ago, but they all cost money on top of needing to have half life.

they only went f2p MANY YEEEARS after being out... like 5-6+


they'll almost definitely go the XPAC route ala D3, with yearly/2 years xpacs introducing 2-3 maps and multiple heroes at once. not a hero every few weeks model ala a moba.

ive gotten to play more and the synergies are a bit more clear, especially after the patch. there are a lot of guns that dont have enough penalty given how much damage they do per shot (think awp damage with usp accuracy and speed). blizz has a pretty long track record of not being able to balance pvp, so we'll see how this goes

long history of unbalanced pvp? HOTS feels fairly good. heroes swing from better to worse, but that's most mobas.
