Likely Scenario #1 - We have a 7 min. cold streak where we are outscored 20-0 and never recover.

Likely Scenario #2 - We keep it close all game, within 8 or 9 points. Then with 5 mins. left in the game we cut it to 1. From there, we never look back as we piss it all away and lose by 20.

Easy, they have a very good coach. Their defense is one of the best if not the best in the country, and all of their players play with a high BB IQ. Look at the scores of Harvard and Rutgers. Yes, these teams are not world beaters but < 30 points in a game is LOL worthy. Bennett and Larrañaga are the two most underrated coaches in the ACC because their not hall of famers.

If State wants an iota chance of winning this game then Barber needs to attack, attack, attack the basket the entire game. Even if he doesn't score he can kick it out to Turner or Lacey dish it to a big man, or throw a foul. I doubt Perrantes can guard Barber alone as the Miami PG was scoring easy buckets on him so don't see why Barber can't.

No defense can stop turner or lacey when they have it going so we always have a chance againdt good defensive teams as long as its not a pressure team like louisville. Uva is a great matchup for us if we can limit their easy layups like we did against pitt. Make them beat us from 3

To E Man's point, our game vs West Virginia was our best shooting game of the year. We just turned it over 20+ times and lost the game that way. We can score relatively well - maybe not as good as seasons past, but our offense is ok when we're not turning it over at a ridiculous rate.

UVA scares me though because they do play great defense and their offense is really efficient.

UVA is worrisome because they're a great team. Yet, the players, when asked which games they have circled on their calendars, all say UNC and Duke. I hope they want this win just as much as they want the others

I'm not because they're a good team and they're expecting to win easily. The tossup games like the Miami, GT, FSU, GT, Cuse, and Clemson games are the ones that i'm more concerned about.

Pitt?

The main reason we lost those games were because of pressure defense, and our own defense/rebounding.

Pitt was the first good defensive team we played that wasn't a pressure defense.

You seem to be under the impression that our path to winning is not playing good basketball, but playing poorly and simply having enough guys score enough points to outscore the opponent. Thats a terrible idea and I admit, sometimes seems like Gott's plan.

We don't necessarily need more production out of anyone. Wofford is the only game we lost because of scoring.

We lost to Purdue because we gave up 16 offensive rebounds.
We lost to WVU because we had 23 turnovers and gave them a 21 shot advantage.
We lost to cincy because of the flurry of turnovers against the press in the first half.


We have a ton of problems but scoring is not one. We have 2 guys capable of scoring 20-30 any given night. 2 more easily capable of scoring 10-15 any given night and 3 more capable of easily scoring 5-10 any given night. They don't have to average that many points because another guy could step in with it on any night.

Our fg% has never been so low to cause us to lose the game.

I've been to 3 UVA games this season, one in which they were losing to George Washington at half. They can go through some really rough stretches offensively. Obviously defense is where their strength comes from as a team, but if Turner/Lacey can have good games I think we'll at least have a chance.

I'd really like to see Freeman and Abu start to get the majority of the minutes (one for scoring in in the post & the other for rebounding) and then off the bench use Anya for defense and Washington to see if he may be having one of his good games.

One thing about UVA is that they are great at making you take hard shots and they play great defense. But, from what I've seen, they aren't a pressing defense and don't create a ton of turnovers like WV or somebody. It's just a different style of defense.

That's b/c our offense consisted of letting Lacey go beast mode, Turner jacking up a 3, and Barber getting layups. Double team Barber with the press and cover Lacey and offense goes to the shitter. Turner is not a great ball handler so you can afford to double team him in the front court. Gott seemed to adjust it during the Pitt game and the offense ran the most fluids this year against Pitt as well. A lot of good passing
and off ball movement. Our big guys still need to learn how to set a screen.

Very different indeed. If Cat plays aggressive from the start we can win, he's the X factor. When he's passive he's the worst PG in the ACC, when he's aggressive he can slice up defenses.

Where does that stat come from, and what goes into the calculation? I though efficiency was points per possession, in which case UVA's offense is 1.164 and defense is 0.820. By comparison, State is 1.075 on offense and 0.923 on defense.

Taking it a step further, UVA is only averaging 61.9 possessions per game, ranking them at #344 out of 351. We get 67.7 possessions per game.

This is going to be a closer game than a lot of people think.

I figured it out, it is points per possession but listed as per 100 possessions. It makes sense to make the numbers bigger to give them further separation than just 0.1, but you have to consider possessions per game since no team is going to average 100 (highest is 80.5). Then really all you're looking at is average points per game.

Not really, teams that dictate tempo have a huge advantage. If UNC plays Virginia at a track meet pace, what do you think will matter more? uncs scoring average or uvas points allowed per possession? at the end of the day, its all just stats.
