read the first part of the book, author was pretty insightful on why he and others were attracted to Scientology in terms of motivation (although pretty much all religions are the same level of whack-o for me)

I also read about half the book. Honestly reminded me of The Master, almost scene for scene. Don't really feel compelled to watch that again, but in summation, Scientologists be cray

Yah IIRC The Master was based on the beginnings of Scientology
