This is the discussion for those of us that will probably watch this all at one time instead of over the course of a month and want to discuss it all at once.
I've seen the first episode, prolly work on the rest this weekend when I'm out of town for work. 2/27/2015 5:50:40 PM |

Only seen the first episode, but I thought it was pretty weak they brought Stamper back, I mean I liked the character, but it just seems like a cheap plot device to bring him back. 2/28/2015 7:19:25 PM |

*****************SPOILERS?*********************
damn this season was weaksauce.
the ending felt more like a mid-season break kind of finale than it did a real finale.
I'll get more into the nitty gritty later
edit: not to take anything away from Spacey or the show, but I just felt like it was slow and difficult to follow in some places. the Doug line was ridiculous but has to set up a roller coaster for next season.

definitely felt like a big setup for season 4 - decent ending but really just left more open ends rather than closed
as soon as stamper drove off i knew he was turning around - i thought the build up with the diary was too easy to read - he would never really betray frank 3/1/2015 8:54:04 PM |

i agree that it felt like there were a lot of different threads to follow, but i guess that goes with him being the president.
i was thinking that the ending would be Frank losing in Iowa and Doug turning back around, either to kill her or pick her back up (the latter being very unlikely), so the actual ending was a little bit of a letdown, especially since you could see it coming.
i did like that there was a lot more resistance in this season to everything going Frank's way (which, again, makes sense since he's the president and can't manipulate everyone) 3/1/2015 8:55:58 PM |

Claire won't really leave him.
I was hoping it would at least show Doug running her over or something. Maybe her not even dying and him having to finish her off by hand. Morbid, maybe, but it would have done a lot to develop his character.
I still find the idea of such a loyal Chief of Staff just running around killing people completely not plausible. It was so anti- what he was trying to turn around and show Frank in the end. 3/1/2015 10:39:26 PM |

Solid season but will say it was probably the weakest one yet. Hopefully setting up for an epic Season 4.
Think they got too far away from some of the things they did in Season 1 and Season 2.
Also, why the hell did he stop knocking the ring on the desk? I think he did it maybe once or twice the whole season? NEEDS MORE KNOCKING! 3/2/2015 8:47:27 AM |

************SPOILERS****************
Season was good, didn't feel like that much happened though. Set up for season 4 really.
The entire Frank and Claire drama seemed to come out of nowhere after seasons 1-2 presented them as being unbreakable.
The Frank crying like a bitch scene too. Seemed inconsistent with their characters.
I'm also unclear on what their motives are, I had assumed Frank and Claire had some master plan from the start but apparently not. 3/2/2015 10:21:42 AM |

Another thing that bothered me...such a big deal was made in the first couple episodes about how the Democratic leadership was adamant that he not run for a second term.
When he actually announced his second term, you didn't hear about it from Birch or anyone else. 3/2/2015 12:15:26 PM |

I thought they basically said he could run if he wanted, he just wouldn't have their backing. I assumed there was nothing more for them to say to him after that (unless they were going to try to persuade him to drop out), but maybe I'm remembering wrong. 3/2/2015 7:08:44 PM |

no it wasn't...at all...Frank needed Doug to prove his complete loyalty and that he was willing to get rid of any distraction and/or possible issue that could arise from Rachel....they (Frank & Claire) were going to kill her from the very first episode if they found her...
Quote : | "Also, why the hell did he stop knocking the ring on the desk? " |
he buried the ring at the Civil War battleground last season...

their master plan was the Presidency....but for the first time in their marriage, Frank really is the superior half....I think Claire eventually saw the Presidency for herself as well but she has been marginalized by Frank's shit show....3/3/2015 2:24:24 AM |

Claire gave Frank a new ring when he got the Presidency. Definitely needed more knocking.
Definitely wasn't the strongest season, but we really enjoyed it. Claire had a great season. Two strong conversations between she and two side characters holding weight to her character development. American prisoner and the new mom. 3/3/2015 8:37:48 AM |

Claire did a knock at one point, I thought it was pretty cool.
Stamper's demise and recovery made him more relateable, same reason I liked Russo in the first season. He was just more of a real person.
I disagree with the posts about too much going on, especially compared to the 3rd and 4th seasons of West Wing when Bartlett was running for reelection. 3/3/2015 4:03:59 PM |

Just watched the last episode. I take it back, Stamper's a dick. My favorite characters keep going bad
Also, awful last line compared to how intense the last 2 seasons ended.

Seems to be the general consensus...
When finishing Season 1: Holy shit, what a great show! When finishing Season 2: Wow, that season was awesome! When finishing Season 3: Meh, should make for a great season 4...hopefully. 3/4/2015 8:21:13 AM |

Yeah I'm surprised they didn't show Doug actually killing her, given that Zoe scene and its reception.3/5/2015 11:13:26 AM |

Shitty season was shitty. The Russian president was the loan bright spot. And that dude playing the writer may be the worst actor of all time.

God yes, he was insufferable to watch
Thought it was a good season though, not sure why all the hate. It was no Season 1 or 2, but still pretty fucking good nonetheless. But yes, the season finale seemed like a midseason finish. Season 4 has the potential to be epic.

I didn't really enjoy this season. Doug's storyline was the only interesting one. Everything with Franks storyline was just so negative. I understand at some point he has to deal with the consequences of treating everyone like shit but it wasn't as fun of a show that way. Just felt like setup for season 4. 3/8/2015 10:45:08 AM |

His character received the most development this season. He was what Peter Russo was to season 1. Which is what made the kidnapping/killing so much worse to watch as it was. It made no sense to me why he had to do that. Can't a single character on this show find redemption?3/8/2015 4:46:44 PM |

^for sure.
^^I just wanted to see the damn thing. See how he did it. See how it affected him emotionally to actually do it, etc. They certainly developed his character a lot this season but I just felt short changed a bit.

I loved Season 1, but really wasn't a big fan of either season 2 or 3. Definitely enjoyed the Peter Russo storyline in season 1, but don't really feel like they've had any other storyline in the last 2 seasons anywhere near as interesting as what they did with him. 3/8/2015 11:54:39 PM |
