For years we were told by news websites that David Simon would never have a HD transfer done on The Wire because it would lose the rawness it is known for.

Well apparently HBO's opinion trumps Simon's. Hell, they altered the aspect ratio from 4:3 to 16:9 Ballsy call by HBO.

The thing is though, you can get HD without 16x9, so I don't see why it "had" to be changed.

I've watched this show probably 4-5 times completely through. That is similar to saying you never watch a movie again.

Not even close. Watching a movie is a 90-120 minute commitment. Each season of the Wire is at least 10 hours long. 50 hours > 2 hours.

There are too many series I'd like to watch before I would watch another series over again.
