Fantasy Baseball virgin here. I've been asked to take over a team in a keeper league ran by my buddy. I get to choose from two existing lineups and have my choice to keep 3 players.

The rules are that I can not keep a player drafted in round 1 of 2014
The players i keep are drafted 1 round earlier than they were in 14. So if i keep Mike Trout (rd. 20) I would draft him in the 19th round. Sorry if this is standard FB rules, it's all pretty new to me. Here are the two teams I have the chance to take over. Any keepers help and general fantasy baseball advice would be great.

Team 1

Team 2

I agree with the 2nd post. Getting the consensus #1 overall pick in the 19th round is crazy. If you stay in that league for long enough, you cold potentially own Trout for his entire playing career based on the keeper rules

I've been playing fantasy bball for a long time, been in a keeper league with a handful of TWWers for 7 years now (won it last year)

So what's the goal of day to day management of a roster? Am I trying to use the FA wire to get a full lineup per day or is it ok to have gaps and open positions based on days off/travel days?

I don't normally mess around with picking up and dropping guys off of waivers, I do like to have a mid-level guy on my bench who is multi-position eligible that I can plug in on days that my main starters are off.

Depends on how many DL spots you have. Might as well fill them up, while keeping in mind when you activate them you'll have to drop somebody else.

And generally speaking I agree about not going crazy on the FA wire. It's nice to have backups at positions like Catcher and 2B but if you have studs at those positions you don't really need them. Streaming a pitcher or 2 can help you in your Wins and Ks but can also hurt your ERA and WHIP if you gamble and lose.

My strategy is always to get a full starting lineup with just one bench hitter who can play multiple positions, and as many of the best closers as I can play (my league has 2 RP spots and 3 general P spots so I have 5 every day), then all the rest of the bench is starters. Usually keeps my era pretty low, always win saves, whip, and I have enough pitchers to get wins and strikeouts most of the time. Hitting suffered a little but all I need is one or two categories to win with my pitching, so concentrate on one stat (SB) and I've got a good shot every week

holy hell the guys in my league are waiver wire hounds. they must have notifications on for every single AAA call up or DL listing. i thought i kept up with things, but even if i find out something in 10 minutes by the time i get on the person in question has already been claimed from free agency, dropped, or replaced. ridiculous.

Where are you getting your info from? If your sources aren't too quick, then you're behind the 8ball before you even get a chance to react

i really don't have any sources. just a few outlets i follow on twitter. what do you recommend?

also... i'm trying to make some room on my roster for when Hunter Pence comes off the DL. my outfielders are Harper, Trout, Braun, Adam Jones, Alex Gordon, and Austin Jackson. It's probably between Braun and Gordon as to who will be in the trade. Both are off to slow starts, trying to decide who has the most potential for numbers this season..

I have Buster Olney text me whenever a big move is happening so I can get the jump on my league mates. I'd recommend a similar approach.

"i really don't have any sources"

By sources, I mean sources of information/news. Obviously, I'm not asking if you have insider info from league executives. So, if you have no sources, then it's not surprising you're getting scooped on players. If you do have sources but are still getting scooped regularly, then either you're slow to react or the sources you follow are slow in getting the news out to you

If you're just on the lookout for particular AAA callups (you should really only focus on the elite prospects), then you're always better off being early on picking them up. You typically hear rumors of Player X being close to being called up a week or 2 before they ever do (especially at the key times of year for callups....mid-April, June & Sept 1). So it's typically easiest to just check a good fantasy site 2-3 times a week (I'd recommend Rotoworld due to it being quick, easy & sortable by team & position for Player News) for callup rumors for the elite prospects & when you see the rumors of an imminent callup for a certain player, grab them

Active thread...hopefully someone will look at this

I'm thinking of trading McCutchen...I'm in need of bettering my team overall, so thinking of floating him to an owner for a hitter and pitcher. Guy I'm looking at has Blackmon and Archer. Would that be laughed away? Should I be getting more? Amy I crazy?
