More possession = more shot attempts... but if they are bad shots and the defense is allowed to mug them it won't increase scoring enough. 5/15/2015 4:56:49 PM |

they need to stop calling fouls on the defense when the offensive player intentionally smashes into them to draw a foul 5/15/2015 4:59:02 PM |

This will help make it less advantageous for teams from stalling on offense and hopefully lead to more transition since a quicker pace will hopefully mean it's less advantageous for teams to send 3-4 four defenders back to the other side of the court the second a shot goes up instead of trying to rebound.
Now if we can only kill the zone, cause otherwise this will just make these pack line defenses that just muck up the lane and prevent movement will have an easier time forcing bad shots. Gotta have ways to create some floor spacing. 5/15/2015 5:24:20 PM |

http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaab/2015/05/15/basketball-rules-shot-clock-block-charge-arc/27368185/
So:
- 30 second shot clock - 4 timeouts instead of 5 - Only 3 timeouts carry over to 2nd half (suck it, Roy) - 1 foot larger restricted area (in paint, to reduce charges) - Shotclock violations on made shots can be reviewed - Players can get penalized for flopping! - Players can now dunk in pregame warmups!

If they actually pass that, it'll be hilarious. I'm all for it, but it will be called so god damned unfairly it'll be worthless.5/15/2015 7:54:47 PM |

It will be one of those "points of emphasis" that will be called heavily during early season non conference games and slowly forgotten about as conference play goes on.
God I hate flopping so much. 5/15/2015 8:07:36 PM |

Seems like a practical way to implement it would be to just call blocking fouls more often on close block/charge situations. But then again I'm someone who thinks even with a lot of contact, sometimes a no-call is the right call. But we don't seem to get those no-calls very often ourselves. 5/15/2015 8:12:18 PM |

I don't see the 4 timeout rule sticking. Coaches will say it hurts strategy too much. 5/15/2015 9:07:08 PM |

I hate all of these anti strategy rules. Why does scoring need to increase? How much scoring is "enough". If youbwant to watch basketball where defense is illegal, you already have the nba. Those of us who want to watch freedom of playing style obly have college and I worry that they are just slowly making college into nba.
I come fron the defwensive school of thougjt where Mucking up the paint and restricting movement is good basketball. Letting the other team score easily or quickly is bad baskerball.
Getting rid of charged means more guys will give up on plays and allow layups. If not, more free throws and 3 point plays. With thw shorter shot clock it will be a better play just to mindlessly Lunge towards the basket and gwt a foul. Gross. 5/15/2015 10:06:10 PM |

I am ok with the shot clock change. Not sure why the restricted area for charges needs to push out, as long as you are not under the basket you should be able to stand your ground on defense. Don't see how they will call the flop penalty unless they use more replays, which I do not want to see. I get pissed enough already when they stop the game for 5 minutes because someone may have made contact with an elbow. 5/17/2015 10:13:13 PM |

I can agree with the shot clock, always found it funny women's bball had a shorter clock than men. Other than that, the closer the rules get to the No Basketball Association, the less I will watch, cause that crap sucks. 5/18/2015 1:26:43 AM |

Wish they (and the NBA jointly?) would implement a 3 year minimum before you could be drafted, but that you could go pro out of high school. Like baseball. 5/18/2015 2:16:26 AM |

I'd like to see it moved from 10 seconds to 8 to get across half court as well.
The rule changes are nice, but until college coaches move their offenses out of the stone age it's still going to be an ugly game to watch. They really need to dial down how physical they allow perimeter defending to be as well. 5/18/2015 4:45:27 AM |

Would like to see shot clock reset to 20 or 24 seconds after rebound on offense. No need for a fresh 30 since already down the court. 5/18/2015 5:46:18 AM |

There are exactly three things I don't like about the NBA. 1) continuation 2) lax traveling rules 3) limits on zone defenses
Every other aspect of the NBA is better than college by a lot. College basketball has basically become rugby with a rim.5/18/2015 1:06:10 PM |

if they want to fix college basketball, fix AAU. the players are so broken by the time they get to college, the game suffers. 5/18/2015 1:10:44 PM |

And yet the NBA has never been better.
The AAU and camp system has a lot of flaws, but it's got more to do with coaches in college not being able to coach offense for shit than it does kids not having skills coming into college. I suspect that incoming freshmen today are actually more skilled than their counterparts 20 years ago by and large
Defense is so much easier to get from elite athletes, getting them to learn a complex offensive scheme takes a lot longer than they usually get in a year of college. It's one of the reasons Kentucky is always so damned good on defense but outside of plays coming out of a timeout they run a very basic offense. Same with UNC, very basic offense (but Roy doesn't even bother coaching defense). Coach K, same thing but actually has adjusted his offense to change with the skillsets of incoming players it's one of the reasons he's remained successful. Izzo coaches hard nosed defense but nobody has ever accused him of being an offensive genius. 5/18/2015 5:42:22 PM |

The nba isnt great offense scheming. The rules literally prevent you from defending simple play.
Pick n rolll is not elaborate but a 3rd defender coming into the paint and helping the helper would lead to a technical foul Every play. It completely stalls pick n roll in college.
Nba offense involve 1 to 3 players on any given possession. The rest literally dont move.
if you fixed the 3 things justin is talking about nba scores would go down 25%. There are a lot of scores that happen because the defense is overcompensating for the 3 things justin mentioned.

What has rurnt college bball scoring is all these youngins playing street-ball and trying to score on iso plays rather than team ball. NBA players can get away with it because of the exceptional talent level and the lax walk and carry rules. Players like Jahlil Okafor are good enough to get away with iso bball, but a lot of players aren't at that skill level in college. I'd rather see fundamental basketball and team offense, but that's just me. 5/18/2015 7:26:26 PM |

Nba is just a bunch of one on one show offs, hell, if I wanted to see that I could go to the local ghetto and watch that in the park all day. College is a helluva lot more team oriented ( ie duke, Wisconsin). You guys are right only one to three players touch the ball on some nba possessions

This is why a lot of great college players just dont translate well to the NBA and why there are tons of guys in the NBA who would never be able to name where they went to college. Two totally different games really. 5/19/2015 8:30:31 AM |

i'm shocked that the top 1/2 of a percent of players who emerge from college all play well together, but that a conglomeration of the other 99.5% dispersed among 300+ schools kinds sucks.
did coach k suddenly stop knowing how to coach offense? their scoring this year was down 10%+ from their 1990-92 runs to the finals when the 40 second shot clock was in place

NBA teams used to often score 130 or 140 points a game with a 24 second shot clock, and now most teams don't score that much, so there are obviously other factors. A shorter clock in college basketball isn't going to inherently make a run-and-gun fast paced offense score more, but it will force more possessions at least. 5/19/2015 2:18:43 PM |
