First episode September 19.

Looks like some cool new aliens/monsters on the way, plus return of the Zygons and a bit of Missy.

September 15-16 there will be special 3D screenings of the Series 8 finale (Dark Water/Death in Heaven), and will include a prequel for series 9.

Looks like Moffat is doubling down on making everything look like a god damn movie.

Still, Season 8 was probably the best since Season 5 (my favorite Moffat season and one of my favorite Who seasons generally). So I am very hopeful for Season 9. The trailer looks goods.

Season 8 had some really great episodes and some really bad episodes. As a collective season I didn't love it. But I feel like this one will be a much better continuous project.

For some reason, he puts me in mind of md-60s bob dylan. Got the curly fro, the shades, even some of the shirts.

A lot of speculation that the mystery girl in the trailer is either Susan (the 1st doctor's granddaughter) or Jenny (10's "daughter" from the genetic reproduction machine).

So...I'm not entirely sure what I just watched. There were about 1000 macguffins before any semblance of a plot appeared, and even once it became clear where this was headed I still didn't understand what was happening (or anything Davros was saying, for that matter).

Yah, not the strongest start to a new season. Not much happened at all really. I still had fun though.

A couple of things annoyed me. The biggest was that death has zero meaning in Moffat's universe. There was absolutely no reason to "kill" Missy in one episode just to bring her back in the next without explanation. And now he is threatening to "kill" the Doctor again? He must realize that threat lends zero suspense to the story right, since it can't happen? That was my biggest complaint of Season 6.

Anyways, I am really looking forward to next week's episode.

I kind of liked the redemption of Davros concept, but I hate how they always come up with bullshit reasons how certain people (or the Daleks as a whole) are still alive.

And why did the Doctor think he was going to die?

I think the Daleks have been killed off 3 times since the re-boot. Maybe more? Either way, it is insane that they have a planet full of Daleks when just 3 seasons ago there was maybe 5!!!!

Anyways, I am not sure why the Doctor thought he was going to die. He seemed pretty sure it was going to happen and he just resigned himself to it. But I can't see why. He had a pretty easy time doing whatever he pleased, despite being "trapped" on the Dalek home world.

Since the beginning of "New" Who:

Season 1: 9th Doctor SHOCKED that just one made it out of the time war alive, whole episode around fighting that one single Dalek. Season finale, Dalek Emperor has somehow created a new army, but Bad Wolf destroys them all.

Season 2: Season finale, 10th Doctor, a million Daleks imprisoned in a weird, matterless sphere that came out of the void between dimensions. All of them returned there afterwards.

Season 3: Daleks show up in 1930's New York and somehow create a Human/Dalek hybrid. One manages to escape (through a time vortex maybe?)

Season 4: Davros has been pulled out of the time war, creates a new Dalek empire. Also seemingly all blown up at the end...

Season 5: Daleks infiltrate the British fleet in the 1940's, trick the 11th Doctor into identifying them activating the "Progenitor" and new Daleks are created. Doctor lets them escape this time to spare the earth. They return in ancient Rome to help trap the Doctor in the Pandorica.

Season 7: First sighting of the weird Dalek eye inside a human head thing (which I still don't understand why or how it works). Turns out there is a whole planet of Daleks still remaining, and they have an insane asylum. The first incarnation of Clara, who somehow deletes all knowledge of the Doctor from Dalek memory.

Then there's the 50th special which shows the time war and the Christmas special where the Daleks are bit players.

How is Scaro even there? And how is Davros alive this time? And why "kill" Clara and Master/Mistress AGAIN just to make it not mean anything? This show has just gotten so big it doesn't know what to do with itself anymore.

I really liked the under water/time loop episodes. I wouldn't say all the supporting characters were top notch, and the big bad looked like Skeletor replaced his mouth with a vagina, but the concept was pretty cool.

This season has 5 two-parters and only 2 stand alone episodes. What the hell is happening? Why not just make each story a mini-series like the original run or season 3 of torchwood?

My understanding of classic Who is that it was a lot of mini-arcs rather than stand-alones while foreshadowing the season's big bad. Maybe they're doing that?

I liked this episode; it pulled at the heartstrings a bit.

I don't understand why they had to bring the girl back so quickly. Like the Doctor just happened to find her again on his next random journey? Would have been more special to wait until late in the season, or even next season.

Well they showed her at the end of the episode in the picture. Wasn't sure if it meant she was going to be the focus of the storyline the next few episodes or if it was a add-in to remind the Doctor that she's always out there kind of thing.

Well the one claimed that now they don't need to keep the people alive, and instead can just use people's thoughts to project their images. But the fact that they're keeping people alive in pods would suggest that is indeed false. Guessing the "dead" Oswald sister isn't actually dead.

Did the Clara Zygon become the 2nd Oswald Zygon at the end? I was confused. Also, it seems as though the Zygons keep taking on a bit too much of their source's personality. Is that a flaw in their ability or just actors not being able to play differently?

Yes, the Zygon that had been impersonating Clara changed to become the 2nd Oswald.

So my thoughts were, one of two things:

1. The Oswald sister in the episode was the Zygon one the whole time and the human sister never died, she was just sustained in one of those pods permanently. They said that they didn't actually figure out how to sustain the transformation after the host was dead, they lied and instead had everyone held captive in the pods. So now that means both Oswald twins are Zygons.

2. The Oswald sister in the episode was the human one the whole time. The Zygon sister died and now replacing her with another Zygon allows them to keep the balance with one human and one Zygon.

Still somewhat open-ended, but would definitely be a creepier version in #1 with the human one stuck in a pod forever, haha.

^I didn't see it really being the Zygon's took on their personality, in terms of the Oswald twin I felt like the Zygon tries to mimic her as much as possible to make everyone wonder who is the human and who is the Zygon. When it came to Clara, it was more because Clara was fighting back from inside and was gaining control in bits and pieces.

So.......what the hell was that? I kind of likes the departure from the regular formula, but did anyone understand what actually happened at the end? If people see the transmission and become one with the dust, then the whole universe should fall victim to a literally viral video. Is this going to be revisited?

Yeah, so it's The Ring but instead of a girl coming out of your TV to kill you, you watch it and turn into sand.

I'm sure they'll revisit it at some point, guess they just didn't want to go on with so many two-parters in a row.

This whole season has been very "meh". I think this most recent episode was more disappointing because they hyped it up as "the best episode we've done in a long time, it'll be compared to Blink"....and it is not even remotely close to one of the best episodes in the last few years.

Dish Network apparently moved BBC America to its America's Top 200 package with no notification, so my recordings no longer work and I can't watch it on On Demand. This is bullshit.

I knew Jenna Coleman was done after this season but I wasn't expecting it to happen right now. Because of how many times everyone has died so far I have trouble feeling sorrowful about it even if it is real this time.

No doubt that the Doctor was transported to Missy and the Daleks, yeah?

Exciting news: River Song will be in the Christmas Special

Eh, this entire season has been probably one of the worst Doctor Who seasons I've seen. Was discussing with a buddy of mine who is a fan of the series, and we both agreed it's almost becoming a chore to watch the show.

Really need the season finale next week to save the season, but right now I have no hope that it'll do so. Can't tell if it's just the writing has gone to crap, the stories are boring, or if I just don't like the new Doctor.

I didn't enjoy this latest episode, thought it was obvious much too early(like <5 minutes into the episode) that it was a big time loop. I didn't realize it had gone on that long until he hit the water and you could see all the skulls. The only elements I actually liked were the fact that his speech in front of the diamond wall kept getting longer the further he made and I liked that Clara actually showed up for a minute to give one last goodbye. I mean, he's punching the diamond wall over and over, I get that, but did he really punch it into a perfectly shaped square/rectangle that he could just walk through?

The time loop was obvious as soon as you saw his clothes in front of the fire, and when he said "you want confessions" you knew he was inside the confessional they've been talking about since the first episode.

But that didn't take away from how great the Doctor was at talking to himself. Showing his fears, explaining his process in his head.

I agree that this Doctor's run has not been great, but I'm starting to think that was Clara's fault. This is only the second time since NewWho began that the Doctor changed while the companion stayed the same. Rose was not a defining character the way Clara was...things just kind of happened around Rose but Clara drove the story and didn't give the new Doctor as many opportunities to just explore. Now that she's gone, I think we'll be seeing Capaldi shine a bit more.

I really liked the last three episodes (all written by Sarah Dollard btw). Clara's death wasn't especially affecting but the Doctor's fury was.

Quote :
"I know the Doctor. The Doctor would nev---"

"THE DOCTOR IS NO LONGER HERE, AND YOU ARE STUCK WITH ME. AND I WILL END YOU. EVERYTHING YOU LOVE."

I liked the loop. I don't think they were coy about it being a loop; it's clear from the clothes. I liked the Doctor's knowledge and manipulation of it: making sure to put the clothes back as he found them and all that.

The last episode was a little wonky, but I liked their parting. Plus, we're back to the sonic screwdriver!

The sendoff in Hellbent was WAY better than just leaving her dead in Face the Raven. However, I would have been fine with Clara just walking away or going back to being dead instead of taking a TARDIS. Because now we know she's still out there and so is Ishilda/Me (or rather...2 of them because the one traveling with Clara is from the end of time...any point they go to could contain the one from that time period).

A valid point, but they've put folks on a bus before. Both Captain Jack and the Doctor's female clone fly off at the end of episodes, never to be seen again.

Jack came back with his own spinoff (which by the way, I wish they would do more Torchwood. Miracle Day was super weird but I loved the Children of Earth ark and I want more of that kind of show). They should also bring back Jenny at some point.

I just didn't like the way Rose and Martha were thrust back in for the Stolen Earth story. I don't want to see the same thing happen to Clara. I did like the couple of times Sara Jane Smith came back, so maybe something like that would be ok.

Only episode to air in 2016 will be the Christmas special. No ongoing stories until Spring 2017. I hate it.

Chris Chibnall will be new showrunner beginning in 2018. He was a head writer for Torchwood and the creator of Broadchurch. Sounds like good things are coming (just in a long, long time)

one of the coolest things for me was getting my wife into Dr. Who ... she got all involved with Amy and Rory, and the look on her face after she watched Silence in the Library and then the Doctor's Cot and seeing everything click into place. They did everything around River so well. That episode was amazing.
