My M Coupe ran into some minor flood damage a few months ago. The net result was some electronic issues but no hydrolock whatsoever. The outcome is that my tach is a little wonky (floats up several thousand artificially) and that more importantly, the car randomly shuts off as if someone pulled a power cord.
The car was repaired by a BMW dealership who replaced several sensors that had water damage and were throwing codes. The car was much improved (turning off every 10-15 miles) but not completely resolved (turned off twice in two weeks and the tach was still acting funny). I drop the car back off at BMW and they cleaned/reconnected all ground connections and claimed to find some corrosion. I just picked up the car last night and the tach is already not working. While the car has not shut off yet (~50 miles in), I have a hard time believing the turning off issue is resolved given they have failed to repair it once and the tach is already acting up.
From an insurance standpoint, Geico's stance is that they only cover recommended repairs. The shop determines the issue and repairs it. If that does not fix the issue, it becomes an issue between myself and the shop, not with Geico. At this point, BMW states they don't know why the tach is acting up already. Geico has taken themselves out of the situation and claim it is BMWs issue.
I very much feel like I'm in the middle where I have a car I can't sell (may turn off, tach is weird from flood damage) but Geico claims is resolved (as the shop claims they found a root cause and have completed/paid repairs).
Thoughts? Anyone been in a situation like this? 10/16/2015 10:43:14 AM |
