Priced to compete with Range Rover. I think it's cool, but don't know that it's 80k cool

I'd love a wagoneer. and old one. with a good transmission and no oil leaks. 12/9/2015 2:32:41 PM |

Agreed, I'd be more comfortable paying 5-7 for an old one that will break down all the time than 80 for one that won't. 12/9/2015 2:54:40 PM |

I used to drive the hell out of one of these. 1994 Grand Wagoneer. I really wanted to own that thing. 12/9/2015 6:32:39 PM |

that OP rendering screams 10 mpg.
I guess this is what happens when fuel prices start to dip below $2/gal? 12/9/2015 8:35:02 PM |

That's not an official photo by any means. And this story is posted on an auto dealership's blog.
And cheap gas has little to do with Jeep's decision to bring back the GW; there have been rumblings about it for years.12/10/2015 1:39:19 PM |

Yea, they've been rumbling about it since they killed off their last flat-faced, three-row model, the canyanero commander, which conveniently died in the mid 2000 when fuel prices were in the $3-$4 range. An improving economy + gas prices were absolutely factors in this decision.
Like the OP I think it'll be cool to look at, especially depending on engine options (Ram Eco-diesel?), but for 80k? Jeebus 12/10/2015 9:15:54 PM |

I've seen that rendering floating around for a couple years now. It probably won't look anything like that. Which is good, because not only is it somewhat awkward, but it looks like it dates from about 2005.
Good news altogether, and I do hope they use some tribute elements in the design. But $80K? Do they really expect to steal that level of buyer away from Mercedes and Range Rover? 12/11/2015 10:08:23 AM |

If that is, in fact, the price tag, it has to be beautiful and modern, which seems like it will be difficult to do by having to incorporate the wood paneling. 12/11/2015 10:12:22 AM |

Did any of you people actually read the blog post?
-Nowhere does it say $80k. The OP of this thread said that. -Not that I'd place any stock in a blog post from a dealership, but they talk about the 3.7 liter diesel engine being used to help fuel efficiency.

I forget where I read 80k, but the top of the line Jeep is the Grand Cherokee SRT at 65k. If you're gonna compete with the big boys, you're gonna pay like the big boys. I will look for the original article.

I'm not arguing that it won't cost $80k, but using the upcoming SRT Grand Cherokee Hellcat for comparison is stupid. That's a performance vehicle, and the Wagoneer is gonna be luxury. They're not going to share any powertrain parts.
I don't see what the big deal is, cost-wise. An Escalade can top $80k easily these days. Hell you can almost option out an Explorer to $60k (which is f'ing retarded IMO). A Range Rover Sport starts at $65k, FYI. 12/11/2015 3:59:53 PM |
