Why doesn't the mass media ever talk about this?
I didn't realize it was still going on. 4/3/2016 9:26:23 AM |

Because it has been a frozen conflict for ages
and many people didn't realize it was going on in the first place
and even more people couldn't point to either country on a map, let alone find Nagorno-Karabahk 4/3/2016 10:05:12 AM |

It's also not a conflict perceived as likely to blow up into something bigger, because it's so localized that it doesn't even really threaten the oil interests in Baku. If I remember correctly.
If we're wondering why certain conflicts don't make the news, I direct your attention to the Democratic Republic of Congo, which has had a variety of horrific wars going on for twenty years, one of which -- the Second Congo War -- was the deadliest since WWII ended, and can really on be said to have ended insofar as it split up into various little wars. 4/3/2016 5:40:12 PM |

Mostly because regional conflicts are of little interest outside of that particular region. There are various wars, armed conflicts, and genocides happening all the time.
As long as there isn't spill over potential or the potential for an impact to some global interest (like oil) no one knows or gives a shit.
There are a few exceptions, bosnia-serbia for example, that get press for one reason or another, but ultimately most people are far more concerned with things that directly impact their life (like the price of ice cream) than they are with people they would never meet being butchered in Myanmar.
It's sad, but it's also true. Even with modern globalization we still have a tribal mentality as a species and honestly that's going to be difficult to overcome since it's partly biological, it isn't just socialized. 4/3/2016 7:10:07 PM |
