Leaving for work this morning I saw a bunch of cops on Trailwood Hills. They had three houses taped off and cops were swarming in and out of the center house. There was an ABC 11 news helicopter hovering overhead.

This is the only potential clue I've found as to what's happening and I don't know if it's related:

I once got wasted in Trailwood hills and made quesadillas right on the burner. It blew my mind when I asked for a pan and my buddy just threw it on the burner.

I didn't stab myself so I don't think we had onions

this sounds as if he was cutting onions in a kitchen setting. no telling if they were from this person's garden or if they were purchased. if he was harvesting the onions he'd be likely pulling or perhaps digging them, but not cutting them
