In a second room my father in law has a Bose system he wants to connect this wireless receiver. The main box is in a different room. Any ideas on how I can get these two connected??



Unfortunately the Bose receiver doesn't have HDMI input

without looking up the manual does that D under the CBL SAT stand for Digital? As in you need SPIDF cable to go from that orange port on the genie mini to that CBL SAT D port.

That's the ideal connection that you want to make and to test it you can use the typical RCA red or white composite audio plugs to make the connection, but I would still grab that cheap one off monoprice as that's it's intended purpose and it's much beefier of a cable than the composite.

The worst case is that DirecTV will give you a breakout connection for that AV port that will have the red and white RCA plugs, but there would probably be a sync delay with the HDMI picture and the audio from the bose.

His TV also most definitely has an optical out which I take back my earlier recommendation for the ideal connection. If you can go from the TV's optical out port to the Bose Optical In. That's the best. Then the Orange Digital from Genie Mini and then finally worst case is that break out connector.

Just connect any RCA cable from the orange on the directv to the black "D" on the Bose, and set the bose to that input. Will give you surround sound.

If you switch the bose to the right input and still don't hear any sound, you might have to go into the DirecTV setup menu and enable digital output.

If the TV has an optical output, you may just be able to run that straight to the bose (and leave cable box HDMI) but it's hit or miss if the TV properly passes through the audio via optical (since it has to de-embed the audio from the video stream, then transcode to spdif-- chances are you would barely notice the difference anyway...).

the toslink worked great ! I tried the RCA through the digital port on the mini and it had a little bit of garble.
