I went to Houston this past weekend to watch Colombia lose to Costa Rica.

It was probably 80-20 colombia fans.

Ref put himself in a tough spot. Tried to get control of a physical match early, then, I think he forgot that Diaz was already sitting on a yellow when he carded him again. After that, it was only a matter of time before he overbooked Argentina to try and even the field to 10 players a piece.

Diaz should not have been sent off, Messi didn't deserve a yellow (that's a no-call, in my book). And Rojo made a clean tackle and shouldn't have been sent off

^^ was basically Luis Suarez on "literal" steroids. A mentally unstable psychopath who's brilliant on the field. Argentines definitely turned on him in '94, though. Then turned around and reimbraced him later. That's typical of most fanbases, though.


What's really amazing about this Copa (beside the obvious Messi plot) is that Chile has had such a rapid rise in CONMEBOL, and appears to be legit. If they were dropped off in Paris tomorrow, could they win the Euros? If Sanchez isn't hurt, I think they could definitely compete. They are HOT right now

Competing is much different than winning the Euro's. Wales has proven they can compete, so that's not saying much.

In Chile's case the sum is much greater than the parts, and I agree, they're rolling right now. I don't see them going out and winning vs a team of an Italy, Spain, or Germany's ilk in a big competition still though with the talent and depth those sides possess. Easily a top 10 team in the world right now however.

Those FIFA rankings are total bullshit. They've currently got Italy 12th for instance, but they would be favored vs everybody ahead of them except Germany at a neutral site imo.

I don't think Wales is really competing. England sucks and has been overrated for about 40 years, now, but somehow people still regard them as an elite team when comparing how other teams stack up against them. Wales has benefited tremendously from a favorable draw and is going to get stomped out by Belgium, methinks.

But anyway, when I said "compete," I more or less meant "finish top four." Guess I should have been more precise with my words.

At least Wales won 2 games and reached the knockout stages. I'd call that competing.

Portugal (8th in FIFA rankings btw) has yet to win a match and finished 3rd coming out of a group of minnows.
