I searched for "olympics" and didn't see anything.
Can we just go ahead and cancel them? I was reading where most of the better golfers have already opted not to join golf's first foray into the Olympics since 1904, all citing Zika as the reason.
I read another article where Rio doesn't have enough money for their police to properly patrol the city during the Olympics, and of course all of the spectators that won't show up because of Zika fears. Whether or not they are for good reason, many people are afraid of getting the virus. 6/28/2016 3:44:07 PM |

I think the main thing for the golfers is that the payout isn't worth it.
Also, a lot of pro players don't want to risk injury so instead they cite Zika. 6/28/2016 4:38:20 PM |

This olympics is going to be an epic shitshow. Sochi was bad, this might actually end up being worse.
I think the Olympics are on its last legs, at least as it is currently run. Cities and countries are less and less interested in hosting due to prohibitive costs and negative ROI. Unless the IOC wises up and starts sharing revenue with the host city/country and goes back to places that have hosted in the past it'll be over. 6/29/2016 12:10:30 AM |

The Olympics will never die. The countries & athletes spend to much money preparing for them and the TV networks have to big of a financial interest in them continuing. Besides, what other sports do you watch on TV during August? 6/29/2016 1:39:41 PM |

Exactly. I like the idea that someone mentioned on here one time. They said the IOC needs to maintain the Olympic facilities in about 4, or 5 cities and then just rotate between them.6/29/2016 9:43:27 PM |

Meh. While most of the Olympics blows, a few of the track events, the medal games for basketball, etc are better than any of those sports.
And if the US has some breakout Michael Phelps type star, it could be interesting. But generally speaking the Olympics aren't very exciting.

Olympics are huge. Maybe not for the typical American sports fan but thats not the target audience.
Track and field Gymmastics Swimming
All mega events and easily the top event in that sport
Football Tennis Cycling
All also huge just because the sports are so big. All 6 of these easily too the other things listed and would be missed. Every other event has the oppotunity to produce a story and is worth watching.
Fifa nfl and cricket are the only things that top the olympics. 6/30/2016 7:50:42 PM |

Sure, we dismiss the Olympics here, but it is sad to think that these Olympics are going to be such a shit show for the 15 and 16 year old Chinese and Russian kids who have been forced to practice day in and day out their entire lives, only to go to Rio and have no one watch them. At least they'll get accolades from their own country. I hope. 7/1/2016 8:23:32 AM |

^Wow.
That just has to speak to corruption within the IOC as to why they chose Rio to begin with. Either that, or the people that brought Rio to the table are some of the best bs'ers the world has ever seen.
I feel really bad for our water-sports athletes
Certainly there are better cities out there - even cities that already have older Olympic facilities in place that could be renovated, that could host the Olympics again.
Perhaps going to Rio was some type of charity event to try and help prop up their economy, which would be stupid, because the Olympics always run as a debt for the host city. 7/7/2016 10:29:40 AM |
