How dead is Tdub, that I'm the first to see and post about this movie?
This is a solid A. Not sure it's as good as Deadpool or Logan, however the tone is VERY different, and it is a really refreshing Comic book movie. Go see it, you will not be disappointed. There are 1 or 2 slow points, and the plot twist was kind of a bust (i'll post with spoilers after opening weekend), but the overall pace is good. There is some creativity with setting that has interesting results. The dialog was largely meaningful or humorous, the only scenes that were disappointing involved Marisa Tomei. She's probably the worst part of the film, but her scenes make up maybe 10 minutes throughout the whole film. Michael Keaton as Vulture is a really fun and believable [for a comic book movie] villain. Other villains are name dropped and used reasonably, and tie in appropriately with the plot. RDJ shows up just enough to advance the plot, but not so much that Ironman overshadows Spidey, and the relationship between the two doesn't feel forced. 7/7/2017 3:20:51 PM |

lol at the awkward high school TV announcements. Best Spider-Man movie yet, and I hold Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man 2 in high regard. Keaton was a really good villain. I'm glad he had some actual character development and motivation behind his actions. Pleased to see Shocker show up, even though he is just a minor henchman. They gave some fan service to his costume too, at least with the original guy that had the shocker gloves. Also, interesting that they didn't make MJ a redhead. Or actually make her name Mary Jane.
Funny thing though, the projectionist at the cinema cut the picture right at the mid-credits scene. Everyone in the auditorium went nuts and started breaking out the torches and pitchforks until management reluctantly agreed to roll the credits again, but had to watch the final scene of the movie first and stuff. Finally got to the mid-credits scene, sat through to the end of credits scene, only to have Cap come on and talk about the virtue of patience, haha. 7/8/2017 12:15:02 AM |

I feel like any leadership (manager, owner, etc..) would put a large sign saying "PLAY ALL MARVEL MOVIES UNTIL 10 MIN AFTER THE FINAL CREDITS OR EVERYONE HAS LEFT THE THEATER"in every projection room. It's pretty well established that these scenes are commonplace in their movies... Personally I find it rather annoying, but I think I'm in the minority.

Literally as the FBI agent shouted freeze on the boat the power in our theater went out. It was the most well timed fuck up I've seen. Took them around 10 minutes to get the movie back up which was a bummer right before the big action scene started, but thankfully not too big of a delay. 7/9/2017 1:00:31 PM |

Stakes are smaller and make sense for this film. No world changing reveals or anything but the direction, editing, composition, and attention to detail are incredible.

Exactly why I loved it! The nuanced small things that he would do with his powers really instilled that sense of wonder and fun not seen since the Chris Reeve Superman movies.
Also: COLOR! SUNLIGHT! HUMOR THAT FELT NATURAL! NO 400 9/11s happening at once where tens of unseen thousands of people died while no one seems to mind!
Scale. That's why it felt good. An actual human scale.
Also Michael Keaton scared my pants off. He was so fucking good in this. 7/10/2017 5:59:32 PM |

The scale is one reason I've enjoyed the Netflix Marvel series.
I've been saying this for a while now, but if Marvel continues on this Infinity War track, I think people are going to tire of so much destruction, to the point to where it just becomes a bore. 7/10/2017 10:33:41 PM |

This is one of those movies where the only reason you cant like it is if you hate something abstract. Like if its too small, you don't like the actors, or if you cant get behind the villain from the jump.
Its hard to find a flaw. 7/11/2017 7:43:18 AM |

I liked the movie, but it's definitely not flawless. I thought the big climax fight scene on the plane was a little disappointing, it was overly dark and a little disjointed

^^MCU movies are flawless, or if not flawless, very popular, for the same reason music producers can manufacture pop chart hits - they're so formulaic that they're blending out originality.
Granted, I haven't seen this movie yet so maybe I'm in the wrong, but it's going to get to the point to where if you've seen one Marvel movie, you've pretty much seen them all, and we're just watching them to finish the story. 7/11/2017 9:07:31 AM |

AndyMac All American 31922 Posts user info edit post |
I haven't gotten that sense at all. Marvel movies might be formulaic but they seem more formulaic to their sub-genres than to each other. Ant-Man is a formulaic heist film, Winter Soldier is a formulaic Bourne style spy thriller, guardians is a formulaic space opera. Some people might dislike that but I enjoy it and think it keeps the franchise fresh.
Dr Strange did feel like Iron Man 1 though so that one you have a point. 7/11/2017 9:23:15 AM |

^^Hey I'm not really knocking them I guess, I mean I'm going to throw my cash at anything Marvel releases, just like everybody else. I just think we're going to get tired of seeing them after a while. 7/11/2017 9:33:08 AM |
BEU All American 12512 Posts user info edit post |
I shall restate. Its difficult to find something that annoyed me or pulled me out of the movie. The plane ending might have been underwhelming because it wasnt formulaic. It if was formulaic it would have been this over the top slow motioned fight.
But this spider man is a kid who doesn't even realize his full potential and hes going up against another regular human that just has a ton of experience flying these winged suits. I mean hell, he even comments about feeling drag to his buddy on the com. Its just so right for the situation. Expressing competence, experience, planning, and detail into a scene. Both as characters and movie makers. Its all the little awesome things that this movie is drowning in.

I don't understand how Marvel seems that they can do no wrong. I mean, this was an excellent movie. The new Thor looks like it is going to be entertaining, and Black Panther is going to knock it out of the park. At some point, they're gonna have to have a dud. 10/19/2017 9:53:59 PM |

Ok, let me clarify. I'm talking about the MCU. I don't think they have any controlling interest on what actually makes it to TV. 10/20/2017 8:52:31 AM |
Wraith All American 27257 Posts user info edit post |
Peggy Carter got canned, yes, but it was actually a really good show.
The first half of Luke Cage was good. Once Cottonmouth died, it went downhill. Agreed that Iron Fist sucked though. Poor casting/acting for that one. He was crap in the Defenders too.
The Iron Man and Thor sequels weren't great, yes, but they were still entertaining to an extent. I wouldn't call them bad.
Didn't watch Inhumans, but the trailers/reception were awful so I didn't really want to. So agreed that it is likely shit.
The Netflix shows (as well as Agent Carter and Agents of SHIELD) ARE in the MCU. 10/20/2017 10:00:08 AM |
