A police officer caught me speeding... okay sure I was speeding and rules are rules but I heard the cop once traveled to RUSSIA. Also apparently the officer in question was once seen drinking vodka... from none other than RUSSIA.
He was driving a Ford crown Victoria... and oddly enough, Ford has several factories IN RUSSIA.

The recent media campaign is conditioning everyone for increased conflict with Russia. Anyone else noticed how CNN keeps publishing articles about "intercepted" russian jets near alaska. What else would be the purpose of that?
https://www.nytimes.com/aponline/2020/06/27/business/ap-eu-nordics-russia-radiation.html and now this radiation event is going to be even more hyped than it would've been without all the propaganda leading up to it. looks like leningrad power plant may have had an accident

And whats up with the russians paying ppl to kill americans in Afghanistan. Thats got to be fake news as fuck 6/27/2020 11:38:35 PM |

that story sounds crafted as fuck to me. Its definitely a story tailored for the typical american who adores the troops and also thinks other countries get a collective orgasm from killing random americans.
CNN said this is all part of Russia's plan to dominate the west but how would a small amount of additional US troops dying in Afghanistan help them towards that goal? How would a deal with the taliban produce anything substantive towards dominating the west? There is an old LA times article on this but its behind paywall for me so I would love an explanation. https://www.latimes.com/world/la-fg-afghanistan-russia-taliban-2017-story.html
They think we are dumb enough to think Putin is that dumb. and now they have just as much on Putin as they had on Solemani. A bunch of unsubstantiated claims. No evidence.

is this typical or the first time theyve ever done this (or any major world power)? what would be an appropriate response under any other president? 6/29/2020 7:42:53 AM |

I haven't heard or seen anything about "dominating the West" on any news source. The main theories on the news are that it was revenge for NATO-affiliated forces killing Russian mercenaries in Syria, and that Russia was trying to destabilized efforts at a peace agreement in Afghanistan.
I don't find the first theory to be plausible. Not that we killed a bunch of Russian mercs in Syria, I'm sure we did. But that Russia is paying bounties on U.S. troops in Afghanistan is revenge. Revenge doesn't really work if it's hidden. I don't think Putin is making strategic decisions for his own private satisfaction.
The second theory makes so much sense to me that my main surprise at this story is that anybody was surprised by it. Of course Russia is doing anything they can to make Afghanistan a quagmire for us. That's not just more sensible revenge (for our support of the mujahideen in the '80's), but it's classic, obvious, no-shit Great Power strategy to weaken us relative to Russia.
The killing of a handful of soldiers is incidental to the larger goal of disrupting the effort to withdraw from Afghanistan.

So in some sense it's hard for me to muster the same outrage, or maybe I should say indignation. I don't think we paid bounties to the Mujahideen, but we did flood them with guns and money with the clear goal of killing Soviets and trapping the USSR into a costly quagmire. It amounts to much the same thing. Bounties do seem a bit distasteful by our sensibilities, but they're not on a separate moral plane.
Really the appropriate response would be what virtually any other President would already be doing, which is acknowledging Russia as an adversary, applying firm political and economic pressure to them, and returning the favor (for example, by increasing military support for Ukraine). Instead we have Trump trying to get them back into the G-7, believing Putin over our own intelligence, and generally acting like Russia is just the bee's knees.

^So you think the responsible move is to further escalate tensions with a nuclear power over unsubstantiated rumors? 7/7/2020 4:04:28 PM |
GrumpyGOP yovo yovo bonsoir 18191 Posts user info edit post |
If you like, sure. "Further escalating tensions" doesn't really mean anything. Anything short of "doing whatever Putin wants us to do" could be viewed as escalating tensions; and for that matter, even doing whatever Putin wants us to do would escalate tensions with other countries and even with Russia itself, by tacitly encouraging it to move more aggressively.
As to them being "unsubstantiated rumors," well, I don't read the Presidential daily briefings any more than the President does. It would be one thing if the administration had said, "We heard these reports, and upon investigation deemed that they were not credible." Instead we got: "What reports? Also, talking about the reports is bad for national security and you're a bad person who should feel bad." 7/9/2020 8:11:12 AM |

Once again when people hear Russia "hacked" something, they should interpret it as "Some people in Russia used the internet to steal information about..."
but of course the media intentionally leaves the door open for people to think "The Russian government is tampering with..." 7/18/2020 1:28:26 PM |
