I know Mean Gene used to work for the Canes, but don't know if he still does. Thought I heard that Slappy was actually working for Wake Med teaching how to properly set up kid's car seats.

Actually it was Slappy who had some medical problems through the years. I think he is still alive though.

^They were caught dancing in the student section on the jumbo tron on opening night at the brand new ESA in 1999. They then became a part of the show and danced during one of the official time outs for a few seasons.

Then for some ungodly reason, they made Mean Gene into the "mic man" at football games, where he would just stand on the field in front of sections 6/7/8 and try and lead cheers that no one could hear or wanted to follow along with.

Leave it to NC State (probably Paul Cousins) to kill another tradition.

We could retire jerseys for them, like we did for announcers and like we will for Herb and probably Archie Miller bc we're desperate to be associated with success.

Not sure if this is the same guy, but I remember in maybe the 07/08 years someone was on the mic chanting during every single play, even when we were on offense in close games and the team wanted the crowd quiet. Everyone hated him and he got booed a lot. He thought because "block that kick" was popular he should lead "make that kick" chants every time we were kicking FGs and PATs. I blame his bad karma for why we haven't been able to trust a kicker for years now.

That was Mean Gene. I started as Mic Man in 2010. I'd do "block that kick," but never "make that kick." Mean Gene would parrot the cheerleaders most of the time and you're just not going to get the student section to do that.
