I'm debating whether to shut down the site. TWW is broke and doesn't make enough money to pay its expenses. There haven't been ads for a few years b/c the ad network we were using cut us off and my occasional attempts to register with new networks get denied due to either low traffic or the adult content. Premium subscriptions help (thank you!) but it hasn't been enough to pay the bills, and I've been covering the difference out of pocket for a while.

TWW turns 18 on April 1 and as TWW's caretaker I was willing to help pay its expenses when it was still a minor, but I'm not going to be an enabler and pay some grown-ass website's bills. So it's decision time. I think we can all agree that TWW has had an amazing run, and we've been joking about TWW dying for a decade so at this point it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world if we did let TWW end. But, it's your site as much as it is mine, and if you're not ready for that, then we'll find a way to keep it going.

The way I see it there's a few options

Keep TWW running
1. at least 30 people sign up for premie
2. buy some ads! they're cheap, and hey you get to put whatever* message you want in the ad space. have some fun!
3. I don't want to help pay, somebody else do it

Let TWW end
1. We can hang out on facebook groups instead
2. We can hang out on reddit instead
3. We can hang out on slack instead

You need to be more transparent about expenses if we're gonna bail the site out. Thirty people getting a 12-month premium subscription is $750. Is that the total expenses for the year, or is it just the deficit for this year? How does that $750 break down?

I don't mind talking about expenses, and yes there are ways to make it cheaper, but that also likely involves work on my part to move to cheaper hosting, etc. which frankly I'm not interested in doing at the moment due to other personal priorities.

I ask you to put those matters aside for a moment and decide 1) do you care if TWW continues to exist and 2) does the value that TWW brings to your life enough that you are willing to financially contribute in 2018 to making that happen. if there's enough Yes responses, I'll consider doing some work to make that financial burden smaller for you people to contribute toward.

I am very, very fond of this website. I'm willing to sign up for a premie again. I'd even buy ads. And if a decision is made to try to keep this thing on life support, I will do that.

But I hope that is not the decision. I love TWW, but my feeling is that this place must be allowed to die. There's no plausible scenario for a Wolfweb Renaissance. The decline in the user base can't be stabilized, let alone reversed.

I've always preferred this site's layout to Reddit, but it seems like the best place for a dedicated band of Brentroad Survivors / Wolfweb Exiles to regroup. It would permit those who want it to keep some semblance of anonymity and allow the posting of more grown-up content than Facebook. I confess I have no idea how slack works.

Please, though, give us some notice on the day you plan to pull the plug. Give us a chance to send it off in some sort of style, revisit classic memories, things like that.

i'd love to keep it going...i just signed up for premium a week or two ago, so i'm trying to do my part. and i'd happily buy premium again when this subscription runs out. but really....no point in keeping this shit on life support if that's what it comes down to. if it's begging enough people to sign up for premie every so often then, to me, it's not worth the hassle for everybody involved. i'd be fine with reddit or whatever, i guess....although i find reddit's layout p shitty.
