Please god jake, I think it should be a rule that users can only post their OWN stuff to sell in classifieds, not their brother in texas or some anonymous friend. I can go into all kinds of reasoning for this (mainly accountability of the seller) but it just ain't right and it annoys the piss out of me to have to work through a middleman on a damned messageboard.

I think classifieds are fine the way they are. If someone wants to post an ad for someone else, then let them... more shopping opportunity.

i think Noen means more like people who post something to the effect "my friend has this thing that he is selling and i really don't know anything about it or how much he wants for it, but it is for sale."

then you have to contact the person who doesn't know anything.. in hopes you can even get a chance to contact the actual seller - who by then might not even have the item.. or the person representing could of misled you.. or the person representing may not even be in touch at all and the entire post was pointless.....

in short - it saves a hell of a lot of headache for a serious potential buyer

how about this, if you're posting to sell for somebody else, give contact info for the ACTUAL seller in the thread (have'm make a new email address or something)

timswar's proposal seems reasonable, but how will those types of rules be enforced?

I just want to say that I post stuff for friends a lot and I know exactly what they are selling as well as they would themselves. I also make sure to put THEIR info on the post so that they can be contacted directly. To ban selling stuff for your friends would also hurt the people trying to buy things b/c maybe a friend that goes to a diff school, or a relative, has something very useful to a student and so they ask us to post something for them. It generates more classified listings and helps both the seller and the BUYER.

^ AGREES

But a good alternative, if you guys are truly annoyed by it, would be to set up FREE "GUEST" accounts strictly to be used in the classifieds section. But I see no problem with friend listings whatsoever
