Not sure on NC State Players
Being down in Atlanta they talk about the Atlanta team some on Sports Talk radio but its been mostly negative for Atlanta.
Head Coach Brad Childress quit a few days into start of practice Michael Vick was the Offensive Coordinator he either quit or was fired yesterday
Aaron Murray (Former UGA QB) was supposed to be starter but he lost out to Matt Simms
It may do alright as a novelty act for a few weeks but once March Madness starts no one will care. 2/8/2019 3:47:41 PM |

So I didn’t watch. But some of the rules I’ve seen are interesting.
Also, the replay officials being mic’d up is neat insight. The NFL would never allow that though.

I liked the UFL when it was running some years ago. But it amazes me how many lives spring minor league football has. It's had a lot of believers over the years that have lost a lot of money. 2/11/2019 10:22:47 AM |

Y'all should all be Iron fans, the reason Tocho and Palmer are on the Iron is because the AAF has what they're calling a territorial draft, where each AAF team can only pick players from certain colleges/NFL/CFL teams, and NC State is in the Iron's territory 2/14/2019 12:47:53 AM |

Because money?
I would assume that the AAF teams would use the locker rooms in Finley fieldhouse and wouldn't be using the Murphy center at all, so it really wouldn't interfere with spring practice or training/whatever 2/20/2019 2:52:59 PM |

so did Dundon pull out all of his money or did he lose a bunch? kinda looks like it was a verbal agreement that he reneged on, but I don't know if any other news has come out to clarify that 4/3/2019 11:03:58 AM |

On the one hand it seems like there would be way easier ways to get a hold of the tech if that is really the goal, but I'd be curious to know how much of a write off Dundon could make on a "loss" on investment.
If you look at it that way that he can find some way to claim a tax loss and get a hold of some assets that's the only way this makes sense. 4/3/2019 11:37:05 AM |

it was billed at the beginning that he invested 250 mil but if you looked into it further they admitted at the time he could pull out at any time
people are pinning this on him it seems like, but without him this would have happened a couple months ago anyhow.
now is the time where the NFL could step in and purchase it and turn it into a minor league if they wanted to do so -- pretty sure thats what happened with the USFL right? and that's what led to the eventual NFL Europe? 4/3/2019 12:39:57 PM |
justinh524 Sprots Talk Mod 27824 Posts user info edit post |
USFL was way more successful than AAF, and in all likelihood would have succeeded if Donald Trump and a few other owners hadn't gotten the league to switch to a fall season to compete directly with the NFL and try and force a merger. USFL had nothing to do with NFL Europe. You're thinking of WLAF, which became NFL Europe/Europa. That was started by the NFL and they owned most of the teams.
It's pretty obvious that AAF wasn't really ready to start playing, but the people in charge at the time felt like they had to beat the revived XFL to the playing field. They immediately lacked the funding to do basic things like send out paychecks to players. That led to them having to give up majority control just to be able to continue on a week-by-week basis. Bill Polian and Charlie Ebersol are the ones who fucked this up, not Dundon. 4/3/2019 2:28:42 PM |

It has to be one of the toughest sports to finance. These teams aren't funded by the NFL like MLB farm teams. Football teams also need about 65 players on a roster. Minor league soccer can get by with about 30, or less on roster. Baseball and hockey can also get by with smaller rosters. Even then, there have been a lot of teams in those leagues that folded through the years and the lower divisions always seem to be changing. The AFL is the most successful semi-pro football league in the USA and that is only 8 vs 8 with a 21 man roster. They have also had financial problems too.
