I mean...the thought process was we could get the ball back and maybe get a chance at a FG. In general I like the idea. But there wasn’t enough time to pull it off and it nearly cost us 3 points and maybe Ingram.

There was 18 secs left on 3rd down when we called it. So at best they run a 4 second play, we call another TO. And hopefully take over after the punt with....5 secs left maybe? If it was 30 seconds left I’d probably agree with the thought. But 18 seconds in that spot just wasn’t enough time.

Defense had been too good (ie, take the sure thing of going to half without giving up points instead of asking the D to make one more stop), offense had been too bad, not enough time, and we get the ball to start the second half. I like the aggressive philosophy in general, but that wasn’t the spot for it.

I’m firmly in the “trust the coaches” camp, but it is weird to just give him one series. I know they did the same thing with Hockman vs Ball State. But if you make an intentional point to get the back up some snaps, more than a single series would seem ideal.

McKay and Hock don't give me that feeling. Hock is a bad P5 QB and honestly the worst case scenario this year is if we lock ourselves into him for 3 years

Also McKay is like a zero, Hockman is a +5/-2 guy. That red zone should have been a td, then should have been an int. He's also throwing down field far better than McKay. He and leary both hold onto the ball way too long. That one leary play was insane.

Hockman (and Leary’s) unwillingness to ever take a sack or throw it away sooner is gonna lead to some wonky ass plays. Scramble, pump fake, hold it hold it hold it, get hit, try to throw it away as you get sacked
