Quote : | "Richard Jewell is a 2019 American biographical drama film directed and produced by Clint Eastwood and written by Billy Ray, based on the 1997 article "American Nightmare: The Ballad of Richard Jewell" by Marie Brenner, published in Vanity Fair. The film depicts the Centennial Olympic Park bombing during the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia and its aftermath, where security guard Richard Jewell found a bomb and alerted authorities to evacuate, only to later be accused of having placed it himself. It stars Paul Walter Hauser as Jewell, alongside Sam Rockwell, Kathy Bates, Jon Hamm, and Olivia Wilde.
It will have its world premiere at AFI Fest on November 20, 2019. The film is scheduled to be theatrically released in the United States on December 13, 2019, by Warner Bros. Pictures." |

Quote : | "A Justice Department investigation of the FBI's conduct found the FBI had tried to manipulate Jewell into waiving his constitutional rights by telling him he was taking part in a training film about bomb detection, although the report concluded "no intentional violation of Mr. Jewell's civil rights and no criminal misconduct" had taken place.[6][7][8]
In a reference to the Unabomber, Jay Leno called him the "Una-doofus".[9] Other references include "Una-Bubba",[10] and (of his mother) "Una-Mama". Jewell was never officially charged, but the FBI thoroughly and publicly searched his home twice, questioned his associates, investigated his background, and maintained 24-hour surveillance of him. The pressure only began to ease after Jewell's attorneys hired an ex-FBI agent to administer a polygraph, which Jewell passed.[5] " |

All because the police and FBI couldn't do their job. Railroaded an innocent man just to prove that they got the perp. The media is as much to blame as law enforcement. They drive that train and both are still doing it. 11/1/2019 7:47:46 AM |

"The media" is just a reflection of the lynch mob mentality that gives humans what they thirst. 11/1/2019 9:09:51 AM |

I remember watching this coverage when I was a kid, and when the trailer came out my first thought was that he was the bomber. That's how bad the media and the FBI did this guy. 11/27/2019 11:10:09 AM |

This is a great story that needs to be told but I've lost 99% of my faith in Clint Eastwood having any nuance in his movies. 11/27/2019 11:21:57 AM |

The trailer/tag line is stupid. "now you'll know his name now you'll know the truth"
But everyone already knows both.

Eric Rudoph moved to Nantahal, NC when he was 15, and he was arrested in Murphy, NC.
...and just based on that very first screen shot of Richard Jewell's face in the trailer makes me think the acting will be just as bad as in Gran Torino.

Just watched this over the weekend.
SPOILER!
Did Clint really make up the entire AJC journalist (Kathy Scruggs) fucking the FBI agent for info? She died back in 2001. I looked online and her family was furious that they fabricated this part of the story.
The guy who played Richard Jewell was perfectly cast. 1/25/2021 9:24:48 AM |
