I have a 198K camry. It runs pretty good. I have an issue that after 45mins of driving if I do a pit stop for about 15mins the car would not start again. I have to wait for another~15-20mins before it will start again. I diagnosed it to the ECT using OBD2. So while driving the ECT is ~190F. After a long drive I shutdown and monitor the temp and it rises to ~210F. I let it cool down and found out that I can restart the car again around below 175F. I have new starter, ECT sensor, alternator and battery. I saw online they talking about fuel pump issues. Any takers? 1/20/2020 6:24:47 PM |

ECT is a transmission thing: engaging it is kind of like a sport mode, lol. How can it read that "the ECT is ~190F?" You must mean coolant temperature.
n/m at some point, Toyota changed ECT to "engine coolant sensor" ha! It's pretty normal to drive around at 190F then have it creep to 210F after shutdown since there's no more coolant circulating.
When you try to start it hot, does the engine turn over or *try* to turn over. I had an issue once where my alternator pulley was seizing after shutdown and my starter could not overcome it. The starter would try to do its thing but only managed to twist the engine over a little. I'd sit there trying until it suddenly cranks. It wasn't foolproof though, and I had to get towed 2x before I solved it. Thanks, AAA.

I wouldn't be surprised if your fan relay was jacked and the fans aren't running when you sit/turn it off. When you have wheel speed to generate airflow over the radiator you're fine, but once you've heated things up and park it, things heat soak. The temp sensor is obviously working if after some time to cool things work again. 1/21/2020 8:13:35 AM |

What happens when you try to start it? When you turn the key does it just click or does the engine turn over but not run? If the engine turns over but does not run I would replace the crank position sensor. 1/23/2020 9:12:26 AM |

When I tried to start, it crank, crank, crank then craps out.

funny, awhile back I had a mechanic give me a 'computer diagnostic' and he said I have error code P0335, crank position sensor. However my car check engine never comes on for me to verified this. And when I tried to start and it craps out...the check engine light comes on but when I ran OBD it said no error. So yes i will check into the crank position error.

Update: It was the fuel pump! I replaced it and did a Covid19 grocery test after work and it starts! The old filter was very dirty and the i guess the motor craps out too (200k). 3/30/2020 10:12:37 PM |
