Yeah first time I tried it, I didn’t realize it was a one/day thing so I spent less than a minute making my guesses and didn’t get it, and then was bummed that I couldn’t keep playing

my family just started playing this yesterday and while doing it this morning I came to this realization...

not to be a debbie downer and all but...if you have a basic working knowledge of which letters are most and least frequently used where is the skill in this? I'm not saying you will beat everyone all the time, but if you're using sound logic and someone does beat you, doesn't that just mean they took a statistically bad guess and got lucky?

I def use some tips, but try to change up my word

Second, for a game like this if you're trying to 'beat everyone' you're doing it wrong. The fun is that it's simple and the same puzzle for everyone and they have a share format that makes it easy to show how you got there without spoiling it.

^ it's not really a difficult "game" at all, they had the same game in Dr. Quandry's Island, which was made for elementary school kids. It's just the fact everyone has the same word, and they make it easy to share your process that makes it a little interesting.

I don't compete against anyone and have a lot of fun.

If you don't look up words, actually having to recall a lot of five letter words is where the trick comes in. Today's took me 4 tries but getting from my second word to the 3rd one really took some thinking. My third turned out to be a good choice, which made my 4th entry very quick. But it was still fun to work through the 2nd to 3rd.

Yeah I don’t care about comparing results or beating anybody. It’s just a fun puzzle. Like doing a sudoku or crossword or whatever (although I guess you could time your results and compare that way, but again, that’s not part of the enjoyment for me)

Feel like I can say this without giving anything away for what today’s word is

I always to get like the 4th or 5th guess and then start to overthink it. Like, oh shit there must be an X or Z or something wacky in this one. So then I spend way too long trying to figure out where the X must go. Happens pretty much everyday.

I would assume most people can complete it within 6 if they are being reasonably strategic. By 4 I usually have half the alphabet eliminated and/or 60% of the blocks are full.

Yeah it’s not exactly a difficult puzzle if you put some thought into it. Unlike a crossword or something that does require specific knowledge in addition to some basic spelling and vocabulary…this is pretty straight forward if you put the thought into it.

so hypothetically let's say the word of the day is PENNY. If your first guess is NIGHT, does the 'N' show up as a yellow block to indicate that 'N' is in the word but the incorrect spot, or does it show up different since there are 2 N's in said puzzle?

Works on phone, at least on iOS

Go to the bookmarklet page linked above
Make a new bookmark (square with up arrow, choose “add bookmark”)
Copy the all the text that begins with “JavaScript:…” from the bookmarklet website
In safari go your bookmarks by clicking the book icon at the bottom
Choose “Edit”
Find the new bookmark you made in step 2 and past the “JavaScript:…” text as the address

Make a new post in this thread, paste the wordle, then go to your bookmarks again and click the new
Bookmark you made, should convert the emojis to a bunch of text, click post reply and voila
