I went to the dentist for a exam/clean.My insurance for dental is garbo (they cover like 400 a year max). Anway, they said i grind my back teeth so i need caps on those. Then my left tooth is chipped and another tooth may have a cavity.Needless to say both "operations" are like $2,000 each. Fairly insane to drop 4k a dentist for some caps and such. Is this normal?

Dentists are a scamFor real though, i think it is extremely rare these days to find a dentist who gives a damn about their patients besides how much money they can get from them. If you find a good one who isn't telling you your entire mouth is rotting and they can save it for $20,000, keep them. Go to another dentist and tell them you don't have dental insurance. I bet they won't quote you anything near $2k. Neither of those things you mentioned should cost anything near that much.Really just sounds like they're trying to get that insurance money by overcharging you/doing unnecessary procedures]

Yeah, there's a lot of questionable practices around. My last two visits they've taken additional X-Rays they've never taken before without explanation or authorization. My insurance wouldn't pay for the extra, and I talked the office into a write-off, because they never gave me a chance to say no or explained why they were doing it. I think just to see if insurance WOULD pay. Turns out I just got irradiated for free!Sorry to hear about your (possible) situation. Do you agree than you grind your back teeth? Also, what is your left tooth? Not familiar with that one. Haven't had any crowns yet, but I'm sure that's coming in the future. $2,000 each seems high.

Yes, but what is a "left tooth"? That's not nearly enough information. There are 16 teeth left of center in a full mouth of adult teeth (8 top and 8 bottom).

did they tell you to get a night guard, that's normally the first thing for teeth grinding and they should have said something sooner. they are around 500, think you can use FSA or HSA money, or you can buy cheap ones at drug store and boil them. if you are not in pain get a night guard now. when you have a chance get a second opinion. are you in Raleigh?
