Yeah, I guess I was thinking a bridge with shipping activity below should have more reinforcement, so that these catastrophic collapses don't happen.
Then I thought a fully loaded cargo ship is probably like 500k metric tons. Moving at 10 knots, that's a ton of energy. No bridge could be expected to withstand that.

I heard that the City of Baltimore may have embezzled all of their American Recovery and Reinvestment Act infrastructure funds that Obama gave them back in 2009. The City leaders apparently told Uncle Sam that they were gonna use his credit card to buy new fenders for the bridge, but instead they bought new bridges for their Fenders - for themselves and all of their friends/families! They all upgraded their Fenders with new bridges on the taxpayer's dime because nobody really knows what the hell even is a bridge fender. The $25,000/yr government pencil pusher reviewing their Obama Bux funds saw the invoice for $10,000 worth of Fender bridges and thought 'damn that's a good deal for bridge fenders'. I bet we never hear a peep of this because Big Guitar will just bury it like they buried Kurt Cobain.
