ost.

I hate asking for help.
Especially when it comes to money type things.
This is incredibly embarrassing for me.

Here's what happened...
1. Wife made a post on facebook about finding resources to help with "slum lords" (this was posted to find information for a friend mostly, but was not referring to our landlord in any way)

2. Landlord got on someone else's Facebook (she has been blocked for privacy for years) and saw the post, and assumed it was about her.

3. She sent texts to my neighbor (who showed us the screenshots) asking about this post.

4. Not even 2 hours later, landlord's MOTHER knocks on the front door with a notice to vacate.

5. While her mother was standing on the porch, the landlord sent another text to the neighbor saying "I found the facebook post" she was asking about before.
The timestamp for the text message about the FB post, and the timestamp from the front porch camera are the exact same time. She was literally sending a message about this stupid post while her mother was delivering a hand written notice to vacate.

6. Other drama continued happening, landlord sent blocks of text messages to me that I saved, showing that she sent the notice to vacate as retalliation for a facebook post she thought was about her.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am a teacher, and I save money and budget during the 10 months I teach to cover the 2 unpaid summer months. After my last paycheck this May, the landlord decides to increase our rent by 400 dollars, effective very next rent payment, and then after rent was paid is when she sends the notice to vacate. This means an unbudgeted, unplanned, and I still don't know how we are going to pull off, across state lines move.

The good news - We found a house, but the closing date keeps getting pushed back due to seller repairs, etc.

The bad news - We were supposed to be out of our current rental by July 30. Closing has been pushed back to Aug 31. I told landlord we were not going to be able to move yet due to the closing date. This is very much still up in the air.

The help I need - The budget I saved for and planned was completely wrecked by this unhinged lease termination. I need help covering moving costs, etc, because I am honestly tapped out. This couldn't have happened at a worse time. I still have about a month before I get my first paycheck for the upcoming school year. My wife set up a crowd funded support page, and I am humbly asking (for old times sake?) if anyone can help out, or at least maybe pass it along if you know of someone who might be able to.

congrats on the house. at least you won't have to worry about bad landlords now. I don't have much to offer other than encouragement that you'll get to the other side of all this

^^Thank you! I know this has solidified the choice to pay a mortgage instead of rent. (the new mortgage is about the same as rent was)

^TL;DR: I'm in a bind and am hoping a few people can throw me a few bucks to help.

^^The poster says their landlord terminated their lease after mistakenly believing a Facebook post was about her, leaving the family with unexpected moving expenses. As a teacher who budgets through the summer, they say a rent increase and delayed home closing have created a financial crisis. They are asking for donations or help sharing their crowdfunding campaign to cover moving costs.

thanks

your mortgage underwriter is going to require documentation of any monetary gifts received before closing

ok, cool

seller doesn’t repair things out of the kindness of their hearts, they do so because the buyer requests them as a condition of moving forward with the deal. if it comes down to another delay, you’re either going to have to concede some of those repairs or prepare to live in a tent.

No, cannot concede the repairs. They are required by the lender to close.

yeah. nothing is official with her ever. that's part of the problem... she told us 3 or 4 different reasons why she was ending our lease, only to finally slip up and say it was because of the facebook post.

Sounds like your landlord is completely unhinged. If it wasn't this, it likely would have been something else. What a psycho to get that upset over a facebook post.
