Yeah and those fuckers at TWC spelled his name wrong. It's Sidney not Sydney! Also I didn't get it here in Charlotte until just this afternoon. I wanted to watch it this morning before going to work, but all they had was Roy Williams HOF on there. I'm gonna go watch it right now.

If you want to get more siked about the season watch this video of last season's highlights. Makes me want to suit up myself. Then I remember I can't shoot, dribble, or jump, but whatever.

Here's the link:

http://ncst.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=5695842827&oid=5351521869

Because it's on facebook you have to download the stupid video application, but that only takes a second and it's one of the least annoying and most useful applications on facebook.

Oh yeah, and while you're waiting for the video to load, sign up for the BBallin at the Old Barn event. So far only 320 people have said they are attending. That's pathetic considering Carolina had over 3,000 in their Late Night with Roy Group.

^No, but the corresponding totals signed up on facebook in the Late Night w/ Roy group and the BBallin group are probably proportional to the actual amount of students in attendance. Plus there are casual bandwagon fans out there, who will go if they see everyone else is going, and they feel like they'll miss out on something if they don't go.

But thanks for being a dick so I had a chance to clarify my original post. I'd be stupid and lost w/out you simonn.

And that may be a good point as far as applications go, but to say you're attending an event isn't an application, so it's a moot point in this case. And while I realize people at UNC may be more into the whole facebook thing in general, I doubt this alone accounts for the disparity in numbers of people who say (said in the case of UNC) they are (were) attending the event.

All you need is a little media hype, the word around campus, and looking for something else other than losing football to get people's attention for basketball. Facebook does little.

is West Virginia down a lot this year? I need to read more about them but thats kind of a rough game for that early in the year... its usually "EA SPORTS" or "Athletes in Action"

damn, strong words from SI
Quote :
"
Tennessee is now epicenter of college hoops, with a top-five team on each side of the state and a decent SEC sleeper (Vandy) sitting in the middle. Unfortunate that we have to wait until Feb. 23 to settle a rivalry in which both teams play uptempo ball and both coaches actively dislike each other. That leaves us to speculate in the meantime: Even though Memphis is the preseason No. 1 in a few prominent places on the Web, the Vols might be slightly better. They won last year's meeting by 18, and filled a glaring frontcourt need with the offseason addition of Iowa transfer Tyler Smith. The Tigers are bringing in an all-world point guard in Derrick Rose, but does that signal an 18-point improvement?"

never in my life did I think I would hear the words "Tennessee is now epicenter of college hoops"

hahahha

and a bit about Maryland:
Quote :
"The NCAA on Wednesday released data on the graduation rates of college student-athletes who entered school between 1997 and 2000, and only one school in the country didn't graduate a single basketball player who enrolled during that time: Maryland"

I dont give a rats ass about academics when it comes to sports but that is still crazy...

I agree, but where besides here and gopack.com have you seen or heard anything about Ballin' at the Old Barn? The Technician, maybe...But that hardly reaches the entire campus. I've been asking people if they are going, and most of them have no idea what I'm talking about. I don't give a shit if you join the facebook group, I just want you at the event w/ as many friends as possible. I just figured getting said friends there would be easier if it was something they saw was all the rage on facebook and wanted to go because everyone else was.

Seriously though what teams do you have as the greatest? Here's just a few that I always hear about and had posted on the last page.

1973/1974 NC State (lost only one game in two years)
1982 North Carolina (Perkins, Worthy, Doherty, Jimmy Black, and a guy known as Mike Jordan until a late jumper that turned him into Michael Jordan)
1999 Duke
1999 UCONN
2005 UNC
2005 Illinois
1983 Houston
2001 Duke
2006/2007 Florida (nowhere near the most talented, but quite possibly the best "team" ever that knew when to clock in and get to work)
1991/1992 Duke
1990/1991 UNLV
1982/1984/1985 Georgetown (3 Final Fours in 4 years with all resulting in them getting to the National Championship game, and winning it once in 1984, wow is all that can be said)
1996/1997/1998 Kentucky (nearly won three championships in a row, a feat that has only been done by John Wooden's teams)
1960 tOSU (John Havilcek and Jerry Lucas nuff said)
1968 UCLA (Besides Alcindor, they had Lucius Allen, Mike Warren, Jr., Lynn Shackleford, and Mike Lynn that also averaged in double figures for the season)
1972 UCLA (The Walton Gang swept through the regular season without a challenge, winning by an average margin of 32 points per game. Besides Walton, the young team also featured future first-round draft picks Keith Wilkes and Swen Nater, and Henry Bibby)
1976 Indiana Hoosiers (the last team to go undefeated and win it all)
1957 UNC
1957 Kansas
1955/1956 San Francisco
1945/1946 Oklahoma State (formerly Oklahoma A&M)

Well how about we put the 1973/1974 NC State teams at 0, basically they can't be touched by everyone else.

I think the 1968 UCLA team was a pretty outstanding team and will be my #1.

0. 1973/1974 NC State
1. 1968 UCLA

Well you should automatically eliminate teams that didn't win NC. No matter how much hype they got during the year (I wonder which team I'm talking about...) they lost to the better TEAM.

I think a strong case can be made for 73/74 State and obviously the Walton-led UCLA teams (sans '74). People underappreciate how dominant those UNLV teams were though. To this day, I don't believe the Duke win was legit. I mean Duke played great but there isn't a college team that should have been able to go head to head with UNLV those years. It was a NBA team in college. Unbelievable to watch..

Well then I guess we have to get rid of 1983 Houston who made it to the Final Four in 1982, 1983, and despite losing Clyde Drexler to the NBA made it again in 1984. I mean that team had two of the top 50 NBA players of all time. Just b/c a team didn't win it all doesn't mean that they weren't a great team. Heck what about the 1954, 1966, and 1997 Kentucky teams? 1979 Indiana State, the Wilt Chamberlain 1957 Kansas team. I could go on about dominant teams that never won it. Just b/c they didn't win it all shouldn't take away from how good they were. Especially if they came up short in the National Championship game.

Actually, you missed the point. The UNLV team the previous year won the title. Anyone with 1/3 of a brain should have realized that was what I was talking about even though I never said that they should be included over the Pack 73/74 or Walton-led UCLA. Though, those two years combined were the most dominant from any one program since the UCLA dynasty. What did Duke do in '98? Or '00?

People are so overzealous to try and prove me wrong on here that they make stupid mistakes and end up looking like jackasses themselves. I guess that's the price I pay for being so damn knowledgeable though...

V what does that have to do with anything? Ok, so Duke '99 and '01 combined are the greatest team ever. You're not even making sense. Those two teams were virtually completely different.

The 1999 Duke team went 37-2 and 16-0 in the ACC, even though I know it will be brought up that the ACC was down, it is still very tough to go undefeated in the ACC. If they had beat UConn they would have set the record for wins in a season. Did you see how many 1st round draft picks that they had on that team? They could have quite possibly been the best Duke team ever and regarded as such had they won that game. Yes even more than the 1991 and 1992 teams. So instead of having 5 National Championships and a three peat, they only have 3. I don't see anyone dismissing how great the Patrick Ewing led Georgetown teams were. We shouldn't discredit Duke beating UNLV in the Final Four on the way to the National Championship in 1991, just like we shouldn't dismiss State and Villanova's runs to National Championships in 1983 and 1985.

Now I don't have 1999 Duke in my Top 10, but they are definitely one of the best teams we've ever seen.

0. 1973/1974 NC State
1. 1968 UCLA
2. 1972 UCLA
3. 1991/1992 Duke
4. 1976 Indiana (the last team to go undefeated and win it all)
5. 1996/1997/1998 Kentucky (just gonna lump those three years all together)
6. 1982/1984/1985 Georgetown
7. 1982, 1983, 1984 Houston Cougars (3 Final Fours in 3 years and made the Championship game in 83 and 84)
8. 2006/2007 Florida (I know some of the other teams may have had better overall records, but no one can deny that come tourney time they knew how to take care of business)
9. 1990/1991 UNLV
10. 1982 UNC

I didn't mean to discredit the Duke team that beat UNLV. They were a TEAM in every sense of the word. I just have my doubts as the game and always will. No big deal... That UNLV team (those two years) was the best college team I have seen in my lifetime. Fun to watch too...

As far as Duke '99.. they had the greatest talent we've seen on one team since those UNLV teams... however they weren't the best TEAM that year. They were not #1 the longest, they finished with the same amount of losses as the Champion and it was no fluke. The better TEAM won... but I'll drop it with the other guy now because I don't want to F up this good thread.

Well that topic couldn't be bttt. Also who cares if the topic goes astray a little, provided it's still related to college basketball. Besides there's only so many times that we can go over how the biggest factor in State's success this year is PG play. Thankfully tomorrow we'll have the "B-ballin at the Old Barn" to discuss and the Red & White game soon after that.

'99

2004 is EASILY far more talented a team, but '99 played amazing together. Their only 2 losses the entire year came without Rip Hamilton and Jake Voskuhl. If they didn't get banged up versus Syracuse there is a very real chance that team could have gone undefeated.

Rivals.com's Countdown to Tipoff page. It shows their preseason top 25, and we are listed at #18. Also there is a link titled "Andrew Skwara talks ACC hoops with Chris Childers" that's from Rivals radio and they break down the ACC. They talk a little about NC State. One guy says "the gap between North Carolina and the rest has gotten bigger." WTF are you talking about. They lost Brandan Wright, Reyshawn Terry, and Miller, and didn't bring any freshman in. No doubt do they still have some great talent, but they are not as deep and people don't realize they were a game or two away from having to play on Thurs. rather than Fri. during the ACC Tournament and didn't win the ACC Regular Season outright. One predicts that we only send 3 to 4 teams to the NCAA while the other guy predicts 5.

Rivals.com Top 10 small forwards

1. Brandon Costner, Soph., North Carolina State, 6-8, 230

Costner was a revelation for the Wolfpack after sitting out a season because of a stress fracture in his leg. He led NC State in scoring (16.8 points per game; ninth in the ACC) and rebounding (7.3; sixth in the ACC), becoming just the seventh freshman in ACC history to lead his team in both categories. The big left-hander is a matchup problem for other small forwards because of his size and his ability to play in the low post and on the perimeter. Costner led the Wolfpack with 61 3-pointers and shot a credible 38 percent from long range.
