It seems that veteran smashers like the GC controller whereas newcomers like the Wiimote+nunchuck

both actually work pretty well, but i seem to be able to jump a lot easier using the old controller.

I use the wiimote + nunchuck, and I'm a newcomer. I think it works well, especially since I can put fingers on both the attack and special attack at the same time, which I don't think you can do with the GC controller.

What don't you like about it? btw, it only counts brawls played offline towards unlocking characters if any of you were wondering. I just unlocked Lucario, what are you guys' opinions on him?

^^^ There's no real need to have your fingers on both at the same time, but regardless, they're close enough to each other on the GC controller that you can switch between them instantly.

There's nothing wrong with the wiimote + nunchuck. I'm sure if I took the time to get used to the setup of it, I can be just as effective as I am on the GC controller. It's just that it takes too much time.

I like Lucario -- he isn't as badass as Mewtwo, but he is a helluva lot faster and still does decent damage.

I heard that SSBB uses the same physics engine as SSBM. If that is true, why not toss in all the characters from SSBM just for the hell of it?

Heh. You know those little hammers at the bottom of the Challenges menu? If a trophy seems like too big of a pain in the ass, those hammers will let you nab it instantly with no sweat.

If you haven't already check out the fucking CO-OP events. They are completely different from the single player events, but there aren't as many. The last event makes you fight every character in the fucking game with one life.

So I haven't used the friend code stuff before this game. Is it supposed to let you know when somebody adds you? I added a friend from work who had already added me and it just says awaiting authorization. This stuff is so gay.

^it's like they don't want you to play online because it's such a pain in the ass

I wonder if it would be any better if they had made it a subscription service like xbox live. Then they would have a monetary reason to invest in a more involved online experience.

^But it's Nintendo, they want to save money and they don't care about online. If they had just made each Wii have a friend code and the games use that code instead of each game have one, it wouldn't be quite as bad.

So does the Wii Classic Controller plug in to the Wiimote like the nunchuck or does it use the gamecube ports on the Wii? I just realized the cords on my Gamecube controllers aren't long enough to reach my couch and Wavebirds are out of production and cost $60 or more to buy new now. Does anyone have a used one for sale?

Man, Boss Battles on Intense is a fucking bitch. The two Ridleys and the two Hands and peter piranha are easy as shit, but Duon and Galleom are fucking bastards. The giant lizard thing and Porky aren't too bad if I can keep my distance. I haven't even been able to fight the final guy yet.

as an avid Melee player I am unimpressed with Brawl. Not only is the online play sluggish, it seems that the game (multiplayer) over all has a slower, floaty feel to it. Perhaps you fall slower and move slower? IDK, but something is different.

Selling my copy for $40.

it's called balance.
they slightly slowed down the combat overall/some characters in particular so that the few fastest characters didn't completely dominate everyone else.

yeah the run speed is slower and there are a lot of characters that fall a lot slower. still feels almost the same as melee for most people i imagine.

im pleased with a lot of the new characters so ill take it.

^^^ i agree, in melee the slower characters had no chance 1v1, at least for me I can't speak for everyone. Also for me, the biggest drawback to melee initially was it was so much faster that the original. Does anyone else feel like the grabs/throws are almost useless in ssbb?

one more question... I know you can add cpu's on friend brawl online, but how do you play them? me and a friend where playing last night, and I wanted to be online so if anyone connected they'd see us playing and could join. But we got bored of hitting the sandbag and each other. No one is ever online because there is little to do on there if you are looking for games. Sorry for all the words

I think in this one you can grab people pretty easily while running. Its more effective than Melee but less effective than the original (which was completely broken for some characters).
------------------------

My thoughts on characters...

Ganondorf was my main guy last game. In this game they tweaked him significantly in order to make him different enough from Capt Falcon. I haven't quite determined if this is better, but I find myself not really liking him as much. His midair attacks are still the same and hit more solidly (very good). However, his up+Smash went from omfgbbq to meh. His over+B no longer makes him fall on his face for misses, but the grab and attack result makes you wide open to attacks with 3+ characters and sometimes successful hits don't do any damage. His Up+B is much improved; however, coming back with him is now more difficult since they removed the jump, down+b, jump, up+b recovery. He also falls like a heavy character now, which is sad.

Jigglypuff is almost unchanged. She has an awesome Bonnet hat which is greatly amusing. However, her ting attack is incredibly nerfed now. It used to knock away at 20-30% but now I find it isn't always affective at even 50-60%. For an attack that leaves you open for 5-6 seconds, that sucks. 'Meh' to the final smash on 90% of the stages.

Zelda is slighly tweaked, but in all the best ways. Her attacks hit a lot more solidly. Her over+b is a jugglying masterpiece.

Lucas is like Ness but better (IMO). His up+smash is beast. His aerial attacks hurt. His PK Thunder goes through things for multiple hits and makes him the best smash ball retriever (imo).

Ike is beast. That is all.

Oh yeah, about the grabs... they knock back way too much now and make it a lot more difficult to start a combo from a grab. I used to wreak havoc with Fox starting with a down throw, but now that bounces them way up the air.

They messed up the rolling now too... when I roll away from something, it faces me in the wrong direction when I get up.

Why the fuck did they add tripping in there? You know, when you'll be changing directions, and your character will trip and sometimes they will get dizzy. What the fuck? What purpose does that serve?

I'm a big fan of the Wiimote by it self. It just felt natural right away. However I have to change something to make grabs easier. If rec's are true and Wiimote + the nunchuck are even better, than I'll have to try that too.

? about online play. do you have to do anything to add people, or just make sure both parties have exchanged numbers.

Because there are a lot of people who have come after I posted my # that I have added who I am still awaiting registration. Is that because they haven't signed online yet?

Lucario is much more fun than Mewtwo, and I love ZeroSS' whip. I mean it does a lot of damage regardless.

I can never get the hang of Ike or Marth, just to sluggish.

Holla for the original Mario Bros stage (pipe underworld). I mean that is hilarious at times.

Random musings on my past/present mains:

Ike - Other than Pit, this is the character that irritates me the most. It irritates me because absolutely anyone can rape with him by spamming one or two moves. Not to mention, Marth owns him. But if you can get an Ike + Marth team where both people are very skilled, they're unstoppable. I did start out using Ike, however, because he was the easiest.

Toon Link - All of my friends despise Toon Link compared to standard Link, but I think Toon Link is one of the top tier characters in the game. His Dair is unstoppable (eat your heart out, Kirby) and his up+B and smash attacks are better IMO. Not to mention, he's much faster than Link, and I prefer Speed > Power.

Marth - Huge upgrade from Melee. It's ridiculous how much better he is now. My favorite character to play with, he's just a ton of fun.

Meta Knight - Didn't expect much, but really kinda shocked me with how much I liked MK, especially for aerial combat. He's pretty much unparalleled.

Pit - If I get caught in one more over+B attack, I'm going to kill someone.

Pikachu - Nerfed, but still good.

Can anyone suggest a character thats good against other players, but not terribly popular? I can almost count on one hand the number of different characters my friends have used. Always one of these:

Link
Ike
Samus
Falcon
Marth
Sonic

I'd like to get awesomely good at something weird like Peach and surprise people.
