I LOVED it. Just got to look for the right stuff and have lots of coupons.

I walked out of super K with $50+ of stuff for about $5 twice, other times got it down to $8 and $17 (from around $50), not too bad for groceries.

well the freaking cashier screwed us over. i had coupons for everything in that transaction, but some didnt go through because when he scanned the nutri-grain one, a window popped up on his screen but he kept scanning. then he noticed the window and selected the product or whatever, but didn't rescan the coupons. i didnt want to say anything, but the total was much much higher than it should have been.

how often does kmart do this?

according to slickdeals.net its going to happen again on the 15th

went three times this weekend... first time got 25$ for 12$

second with my mom and she bought me a shitton of stuff for my new apt.. 125$ for 53$ forgot a 5$ off a 50$ coupon too

and then the third i went last night just to see what else i could find.. and a display box had maybeline mascara 1$ off coupons on a tearpad ... so i got 5 different mascaras for .99 each

and three eyeliners for .74 each

it wasn't the coupons, it was the bitching when one of them wouldn't scan correctly.
big deal its like 30 cents and the rest of them still worked.

one coupon won't scan, not too big a deal. But then the cashier gets lazy and won't try to make the others scan, and at that point they are gonna make me mad so best to just not let them slack.

one guy bitched because i put in the wrong kind of potatoes. He thought they were supposed to be like $1.00/lb so i went to go check the price and thanks to his bitching they ended up the more expensive $1.25/lb. bitch.

the wife and I were behind this lady at kmart on western a couple days ago when the doubles was going on. Honest to god she got over $250 worth of stuff and paid only $1.02. We were like WTF!??!. ended up running into her in the parking lot and chatting for a bit.. she is a huge coupon person and has been doing it for years. Said they would have paid her like $10 if the cashier would have done it right but she wasnt going to argue because apparently when you coupon like that you dont want to bring attention to yourself b/c managers get irritated or something

[Edited on October 6, 2008 at 1:10 PM. Reason : she was nice and said she stocks up like whoa for her family and donates the rest to foodbank]

so where do you get all these coupons to be able to get these kinds of deals

do you just get a bunch of the same coupons and use them over and over on the same item?

you usually can't use multiple coupons on the same item. the big deals come when places double or triple their coupons and you match your coupons to sale items.

for example, at CVS right now they're running a sale where if you buy specific Colgate products you get them for $2.99 but you get $2 extra care bucks which you can use toward any future purchase which means really you're getting it for $0.99, and you can find colgate coupons for anywhere from $0.50 off to $1.00 off.

also, CVS is running a special on herbal essences shampoo and conditioner for $2.88, i have a $2 off coupon, so i'll get a bottle of shampoo for $0.88

I buy 4 to 6 papers a week.

Usually pays for itself. There was a $1 celestial seasonings coupon this week. I drink a LOT of tea and would buy it anyway, so that makes the rest of the paper only 50 cents. Use one more coupon and it's worth it.

^i saw that and didnt think they sold those anywhere. thats what i tend to think about a lot of things when i'm clipping coupons...either that they aren't sold anywhere or they're too expensive to begin with so even after using coupons it's still not a deal.

The teeter puts them on sale often enough I'm sure I'll get them 2/$4 or BOGO before the coupon expires. $1 a box is great for premium herbal teas.

If anyone likes Campbell's soup, I have 5 of that whole insert (possibly minus the V8 soup coupon) available.

That's my plan if the K has the flavors I like and doubles again, if not I'll pay a couple cents more for it at the teeter on sale.

Think I am gonna order some coupons on ebay for it, I go through 2 to 4 cups a day in the winter. just 2 bags a day ends up being 3 boxes a month.

and why does it matter if you can get the item for free?

Yup, it's nice to give people stuff you got for free. I'm sending a guy a flat rate box of stuff in exchange for some motorcycle boots. All he'll tell me is that he's not picky and wants some cinnamon toothpaste, hope he likes it.

I teach foods and nutrition so I usually only use the coupons if the off brand is more expensive than the item with coupons.

It's also fun for me. If I go to CVS, I earn ECB and use those to buy things I need.

I am starting a coupon exchange that will meet once per month at the Briar Creek Panera Bread.

The first meeting will be October 14, Tuesday.

The ad is posted on craigslist here http://raleigh.craigslist.org/grp/870379347.html

Also, does anyone know which Kmarts in the area are Super Ks? Apparently according to corporate HQ those are the Kmarts participating in Super Doubles starting 10/15.

Nice job...

I plan on hitting up Lowe's Food later today and donating some of the free stuff to a food drive

Where do you guys get multiple coupon inserts? It's been suggested that you can check the recycle bins at your apt complex, but they seem to clean them out frequently so there's never any newspapers in there when I check. I don't really feel like dumpster diving at Kangaroo on Monday morning either. Is there a practical way to get a hold of some of the unsold Sunday papers?

I use my ECBs to buy newspapers. burned some on cocoa pebbles (25% more free boxes and BOGO) as well. I have never found the CVS beauty book coupons here, so I traded for some and when I get those I'll be burning more on a bunch of essence of beauty stuff. I'm going to be cutting back on CVSing and some on couponing in general now that I've got enough stuff to last me a while.

pwnt, well sort of

Quote :
"(CNN) -- The rising price of consumer goods is driving shoppers from all walks of life to use coupons for food, beauty aids and pharmacy products at an increasing rate, according to some of the country's largest purveyors of manufacturers' coupons.

The once-popular act of coupon cutting -- introduced by the inventor of Coca-Cola syrup more than 100 years ago -- is again becoming a household chore.

While people may be looking to spend less, they aren't necessarily cutting back on necessities or luxuries. Instead, consumers are hunting for deals on where to dry-clean their clothes, get their oil changed or take the family out to dinner, said MaryAnn Rivers, CEO of Entertainment Publications, which publishes community-based coupon books and Web sites.

Rivers said the company's site has seen a 198 percent increase in the use of coupons for day-to-day necessities and a 63 percent increase in the use of coupons for casual or "quick-serve" meals since last year.

"It doesn't appear activity has slowed down, they're just looking to save more often," said Rivers, whose publication is often sold in schools and community organizations as a fundraising tool. "We're getting back to basics with people. They are trading down from activities and moving into more affordable opportunities."

Other companies are also seeing gains. Florida-based Valpak, whose signature blue envelopes land in about 45 million homes each year, has seen use of its coupons increase 8 percent since last year for products such as groceries, take-out food, home improvement products and specialty retail.

"Coupons motivate customers when they're looking at different stores that offer the same goods. They're more likely to go with a store that offers coupons," she said.

Valpak spokeswoman Marsha Strickhouser said specific figures related to usage is proprietary information and unavailable for release, but said the number represents a significant surge in consumer response in the company's 40-year history.

"People might say coupons are just for tightwads, but people from all kinds of economic backgrounds are more likely to use them," Strickhouser said. "It's good sense to use them."

In mid-2006, consumers bucked a 15-year period of decline by redeeming 2.6 billion manufacturers' coupons.

Since then, the numbers have remained consistent, with redemption at mass merchandising stores such as Wal-Mart and Target up 11 percent since 2007, according to Charles Brown, co-chair of the Association for Integrated Marketing's Coupon Council.

"Couponing," as Brown calls it, also has risen in dollar stores and convenience marts by 14 percent since last year, even as the use of coupons as a marketing tool has declined in the packaged goods arena.

"It's an individual company strategy. Some may be promoting discretionary items that might not be purchased if a consumer is economizing; others might be seeing natural sales generated as consumers economize more," Brown said.

As couponing has become more popular, Brown said manufacturers have become more restrictive with their offerings by imposing shorter duration periods and more purchase requirements to get the deal.

"If the consumer is being responsive and using more coupons, the marketer wants to keep that contained so it doesn't become too costly to them," Brown said.

Despite the restrictions, Brown said he anticipates continued growth in the use of coupons as people get comfortable with the idea of coupons, which languished in the realm of the frugal shopper.

"I think that what we're seeing is a behavioral change in the consumer that could have lasting effects. If you shift buying patterns and enjoy benefits of doing that, you will likely continue in that pattern," he said. "For the marketer, it's an opportunities to bring in more customers and get them to try new things.""
