i asked them about it the other day, they said $30. i guess it's $5 off if they like you.

Other than a lot of land, what else do I need to create my own open air range? What are the laws against it? Not within city limits and what else? I guess all counties are different?

I should just buy a place in the country. I want to be able to walk outside and shoot whenever I want.

I do have a "gold" membership with them and have bought 2 guns from them, so perhaps thats it. It has been a while since I asked them how much it would be also. I may have gone up.

Just bought a UpLULA for my double stack sig.

The UpLULA seems A LOT faster to use. I thought about the HKS, but a few people (incl. Fumbler) mentioned that it wasn't much faster than handloading.

UpLULA
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zos_7e-c4t0&feature=related

It better not break.

Ordered from TopGunSupply.com - flat rate shipping is great and they really seem cheaper than a lot of other places.

I mean they're amazing guns especially for how cheap they are.

If you buy an SKS, make sure you take the thing to complete pieces to get all the cosmoline out. This includes removing the firing pin from the bolt to make sure there's none in there, as a stiff firing pin (most don't have a spring to force it rearward) can cause an AD on a hard bolt slam.

I find that WD-40 dissolved cosmoline better than most anything, WD-40 can be removed with soap and water, and oil all the parts again with gun oil.

You can usually get them at gunshows, in '06 I paid $180 for an unissued Yugo M59/66. I know I've seen some dealers peddling their old busted Norincos for $300 at the latest Dixie Gun and Knife Classic. For both AKs and SKSs, you can try a pawn shop, I bet they have a ton of them.

yeah, we got ours a few years ago. like 4 years or so. i think for like $150.

it was a clean one. we cleaned all the cosmo out, i took that thing apart big time and cleaned it.

ive heard mineral spirits also works. but i just used wd 40, then went over the sections with gun oil.

I love the S&W M&P.

I've heard nothing but bad things about the S&W Sigmas. They might have gotten the bugs worked out, I don't know, but the do not have a good reputation.

To clean a gun, I just spray it with break free powder blast. Non chlorinated brake cleaner. Then oil the shit out of it.

I just ordered an M&P 9mm Compact from CDNN today. They are liquidating all their S&W stuff and have a sale going on through Tuesday evening. M&P 9 or .40SW is $400. Compact is $420. Plus their is a $50 rebate + 2 free mags offer from S&W for M&P's purchased before April 1. So the grand total for the new gun + 4 mags is $402 after rebate including shipping and FFL fee. They had some good deals on revolvers too.

Here is the sale info if interested: http://advancedshooting.blogspot.com/2008/02/cdnn-sale.html

^ Holy shit. Where is that?

This is an actual gun:

Saw this a few weeks ago and then saw a piece on CNN today about cops being pissed about Jim's Gun Supply custom refinishing guns in whatever colors that you want. They're worried about guns that look like toys.

I've always wondered about just painting the tip of the barrel orange and claiming that its a high end metal airsoft gun.

my question is why isn't it the same color combo as the one the cat has....

other than that... other than some rifles I'll be inheriting (Springfield, Mauser, and ??? ill have to ask again) what would you guys recommend? SKS? (i have to admit those things are sweet)

The S&W Sigma isn't bad.
It's not great, but not bad.
The triggers are horribly heavy, long, and mushy, but they will go bang every time and won't fall apart.
If anyone ever gets one, then make sure it is one of the "enhanced" models designated with the "VE" in the model name (S&W Sigma 9VE).

$250 is an okay price for a Sigma. If you buy a S&W AR then you can get a Sigma for $100.

[Edited on February 19, 2008 at 9:17 PM. Reason : BTW I wish I had monies. Always wanted an M&P and that's a hell of a deal ]

Sigforum.com group buy.

It's good till friday guaranteed.

http://sigforum.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/350601935/m/9161020711/p/1

I had been able to handle a P7 the other day and it's great. The grip cocking is very important. So I started saving up and looking for good deals. Who knew that a forum that's all about Sig's would have a HK group buy? I wish I could get one in a higher capacity, but whatever, it's good for what it is.

[Edited on February 20, 2008 at 12:46 AM. Reason : It was either a P7 or a P30. I made my decision.]

Jim's Gun Shop. He's a really nice guy. He tried to find it cheaper, said he couldn't and that it was a heckuva deal.

Smooth process all together. Will do business again.

I've shot a few 239s, and I liked them but I've only owned a P229 which I did like a lot.

I got to mess around with but not shoot a P250 recently. If I hadn't commited myself to a different gun recently, I'd be buying that in a heartbeat. I'm pretty sure, if SIG ever comes out with a striker-fired gun, I'll be close to the first in line to pick that up.

does anyone know of a good place in charlotte to get a concealed carry permit? i stopped by a gun range near my house today, and since i'm an inexperienced shooter they recommended that i take a $75 basic safety course before i took a $120 conceal carry course for the permit. does this sound normal to you guys or are they just trying to fleece suckers? also, is it even possible/recommended to get a conceal carry permit with only a basic knowledge and experience with guns?

^ If you've shot a gun before you should be fine.

When I took my CCW class for Wake County there was a flight attendant who had never fired a gun before but managed to pass the range test with a .32 revolver. I think that about half of her bullets hit the target from 21 feet out.

sorry man, i meant gk2004. must have been smoking crack.
-------------------------

I was at the range Wed and shot from 5, 7, 10, 15 yds. Of course as a novice, my aim was progressively worse as the distance increased, but I'm reasonably sure that it's partly the result of the thick wood grips that came on my pistol. I look forward to the next range trip where I can test the thinner plastic grips I just installed. I love my sig.

-------------------------

I'll never buy blazer brass in 9mm again. I just picked up a box of 9mm from wal-mart and two were defective, the others had dull cases and rough bullets. The box of WWB of the same caliber had shiny brass and smooth surface bullets. I'm all for american made, but Blazer Brass should be ashamed.

[Edited on February 21, 2008 at 8:04 PM. Reason : Now I realize why WWB is a couple bucks more.]

i don't buy blazer anymore, it was way dirty the last time i shot it in my 9mm... with that said i shoot primarily winchester or remington at the range

we're probably going to be taking a CCW class here within the next few months but definitely before summer. Has anybody taken it at the Wake County Range and can compare it with the one at PDHSC?

wow has anyone read what you have to do to get a Pistol Purchase Permit in Orange County?!

You have to have lived there a year, only 2 at a time, DWI disqualifies you, 30 day wait period, your application must be notarized and to top it all off, 3 notarized non-family references who must sign affidavits as to your good character!

Wake seems like a cakewalk.

^yeah, apparently the purchase permit is just an old jim crow law that nc passed to give county sheriff's complete and arbitrary control over who was able to purchase guns.

i wish i had known that before wasting my money. the .40s&w box that i bought had decent looking bullets, but the 9mm was something else entirely. i'm now not looking forward to the extra cleaning i'll have to do.

so quick Q.

say i leave my pistol at a friends house, who cannot get his permit because of a pending traffic stuff.

say someone breaks in and he used the gun on them in the most legal way.

am i still safe?

no, b/c they "the police" could/would cite you & said friend for breaking the law.

what exactly is the "most legal way"? other than hitting the assailant with it.

yeah, but they aren't allowed to possessssss a pistol without a valid permit. that in itself is illegal. they don't live with you and had no reason to have your gun. you and your friend would be cited/arrested.

hell a court could convict you of buying a gun for someone else. another offense entirely.

also shot a SIG P226, a Beretta .45, and a Makarov (all belonging to other people)

then put about 10 rounds through my Remington 700 (7mm REM)

then about 25 rounds through my Marlin 882SSV (.22 WMR)

There's no permit for possession, only concealed handgun licenses and purchasing permits.

If the friend lawfully shot an intruder then it would probably stop at that.

The worst case scenario would be the intruder's family filing a wrongful dealth lawsuit, in which case the family'a attorney would most likely try to find out how the friend got a hold of the gun.
Best case scenario after that would be the jury understood that the gun was simply left at the friend's house. Worst case scenario would be the jury determined a pistol transaction occured without a purchasing permit.

the most legal way is while they are in the act of breaking in.

once they are inside they have to be posing a threat for you to shoot them.
