you just compared creatine to whey protein....the 2 are completely different. I'm still baffled by this comparison. After your 4-6 month creatine use take a month break and start again. That's actually what most people advise anyway (cycling creatine).
Quote : | "And "basic creatine monohydrate" is what you want to be weary of. The cheap shit, taken in high dosages, can impair kidney function. If you use it, you should be very careful to get high quality, respected brands, and follow the loading/maintenance/cycle off instructions." |
I did misspeak about the monohydrate, as some are complete crap. For ANY product, just look for the "creapure" logo (which is what I was aiming at in the fist place) to let you know it's high quality (my monohydrate has the creapure logo)
As far as your comment about it being dangerous....anything taken in high dosages can be dangerous. Unless you have a pre-existing medical condition, creatine use should not damage your kidneys or liver. Most of that garbage comes from anecdotal reports.
Look up Dr. Kerry Kuehl's studies (1 I can think of off the top of my head)

I remember the first time I did the Yoga DVD, it was just getting warm and our AC was on the fritz so it was like one of those "hot yoga" sessions, I was raining sweat.
But on another note, I finished up my first cycle of my modified cardio(great results), so I'm looking to maybe try a classic or another cardio cycle but I've changed houses. Now I don't want to have my carpet or hardwood floors messed up, so I'm moving it to the garage.
Any advice on the best place to get some mats? I saw some for like $20 at Wal-Mart but I heard Big Lots had some cheap mats. 8/20/2009 10:16:00 AM |

I bought a Prana yoga mat at a yard sale last weekend for one dollar. I originally planned to cut it up and use it as a liner for my tool box. But I know these two pretty hot wimmenz who teach yoga and I'll probably see them at this part I'm going to tomorrow night. If they're trying to teach me some yoga I might give it a try. I am getting old, so I gotta start thinking about keeping my mobility and flexibility and shit.

I often find myself doing the Tree pose to Extended Hand-To-Big-Toe pose to Lord of the Dance pose combo at parties when I've been drinking. There are a few girls who are always like "Do your leg trick" when they see me. The girls I know who teach yoga said it was pretty good for someone who has never done yoga, lol. This is where I got the names: http://www.yogajournal.com/poses/finder/browse_categories/standing
I stretch after working out and I do think I have great balance so I shouldn't be that bad as a beginner. I've pulled that combo standing on bar stools and handrails. 8/21/2009 11:14:37 AM |

That's exactly what happend to me. I went to a Yoga/Cardio class at my gym to help improve my balance and flexibility. When I walked in the instructor was like "excuse me sir we are having a class here!!" Then I told her I was taking the class and she laughed at me. Within 10 minutes my shirt was soaked and I probably fell over about 3 times during all the balancing crap. When we started doing some of the cardio stuff I looked like an ogre trying to keep up. It doesn't help that there are mirrors all over the room. I think all the old ladies there were disgusted. I haven't been back since.8/21/2009 11:29:03 AM |

Almost done with week 3. The Ab workout has gotten a lot easier, thankfully.
To early to tell anything other then the workouts have gotten a bit easier but still a lot of struggle. Hoping to see some weight loss kick in soon as well.
At the least it is decently fun for a lifting workout and they go by fast. I tend to do them late at night, not sure if that is better or worse then doing them in the morning. 8/26/2009 1:27:57 AM |

If it's just a head cold, do the workout. If you have a chest cold, skip it. Doing cardio with a head cold will actually get you better faster as counterintuitive as it seems. Just notch the intensity down a little bit to make it a moderate workout instead of balls out intense.8/26/2009 1:50:56 PM |

Just finished another Yoga round.
Some of it I don't even bother I just laugh at the thought of my body bending that way. I've also added the supplement into the routine. Not sure if it will help, but I told myself if I made it this far I'd go ahead and add it in.
Next week is the first recovery phase, not gonna lie I'd probably rather do the regular phase then 2 yogas.. and not sure what core synergistics is but doesn't sound fun. 8/28/2009 12:33:38 AM |

wow feeble good job. the new you makes the old you look like a bitch :p
im thinking about starting this up very soon.
the faq recommends doing workouts in the evenings for better results, but i dont know if i can commit to that with my job (sales = mandatory happy hours and long dinners). thinking about doing morning workouts. any of you gone this route?
luckily i have yoga class on wednesdays and that will fit well into the p90x regimen it sounds like. and i would recommend an actual yoga class to everyone, not only for the benefits of yoga and to make sure you do it, but because most people do poses incorrectly starting off and need an instructor's help. 9/23/2009 1:15:26 PM |

Haha I feel like a major bitch looking back. I used to be fairly athletic in high school but being in the Navy and stuck on submarines is not good for physical fitness.
To answer your question, I currently work shiftwork and I exercise at all different times.... morning, afternoons, middle of the night,,,,, doesn't matter. I think ideally you should work out right before you go to bed so your body can most efficiently repair itself, but the big picture is, this program is gonna work if you stick with it.
I am thinking about ordering Beachbody's new "Insanity" set. Apparently the workouts are only about 30-40 minutes long, but from talking to other people (some of them fellow P90X-ers) they say it's the hardest workout they have ever done. Sounds like a new challenge to me. 9/24/2009 10:22:22 AM |

Quote : | "I think ideally you should work out right before you go to bed so your body can most efficiently repair itself," |
then why do the vast majority of both experts and studies conclude that working out in the afternoon 2-5 is the best physiological time?
when you are sleeping you can't be eating so you can't be replenishing your calorie stores that your body uses to repair itself and keep itself going, and no, it won't burn fat alone while you sleep, it will just eat other muscle.
working out just before sleep CAN cause sleep issues but this varies from person to person, generally the more fit you are to begin with the less it negatively affects sleep and can actually positively impact it.
my biggest issue with working out before sleep is the lack of a recent meal (never good to eat and sleep, and i really dislike eating much right before a workout)
Quote : | "Late Afternoon is Best for Exercise - Research shows that the optimal time to exercise is when our body temperature is at its highest, which, for most people is 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. (body temperature is at its lowest just before waking).
Strength workouts are best in the Afternoon - We have more strength as the day goes on. Strength output is 5% higher at around mid-day and anaerobic performance, such as sprinting, improves by 5% in the late afternoon.
Endurance is Greater in the Afternoon - Aerobic capacity also referred to as endurance is approximately 4% higher in the afternoon.
Injuries Are Less Likely in the Afternoon - In the afternoon we are at our most alert; our body temperature is the highest so our muscles are warm and flexible; and our muscle strength is at its greatest. The combination of these three factors make it less likely that we will get injured in the p.m.
Morning Exercisers Are More Consistent - Even though afternoon exercise might be optimal from a physiological standpoint, research also shows that morning exercisers are more likely to stick to it that late-day athletes." |
morning is probably the worst time for cardio though if you are trying to build muscle, as you body is already in a max catabolic state after waking (no food = you eat yourself) but some people like it...
as for the yoga folks that laughed at you for coming to a class, they should be cockslapped by peter north. you should never discourage attempts at exercise, they just didn't have the correct attitude or outlook that a professional should have. as for your classmates/women being peeved by having a newbie around them, they should look for a advanced only group or get over themselves

Just started this, on day 3.
I'm doing it at 6pm at night as soon as I get home from work but before dinner. This way I'm replenishing my energy right after I excercise, yet it allows 2-3 hours before I go to bed after dinner. 9/24/2009 1:04:08 PM |
FeebleMinded Finally Preemie! 4472 Posts user info edit post |
I think you may have misinterpreted "right before you go to bed" probably because I worded it poorly. If I can swing it, I will work out around 8:00 pm for about 1-1.5 hours. Then I will shower, have my recovery drink and a small snack, then go to bed around 10:00 or 10:30, so there's about 2 hours between when I finish and when I go to bed. I don't think (at least for me) it would even be possible to workout and go straight to bed. I just have too much adrenaline and I need a couple hours to wind down. 9/24/2009 3:03:15 PM |

I think that's what everyone does.
Update: I had to stop the program two weeks ago because I re-injured my back while doing Mason Twists.
And I re-injured it BADLY (like, X-Rays, Chiropractor, PT, and couldn't take today's PFA badly).
I'm feeling a lot better than I did a week ago, when I couldn't stand up straight or sneeze without a 9/10 pain level.
PT today told me that upper leg and butt muscles were extremely tight and causing all of the pressure on my sciatic nerve on my right side.
So I've got some major stretching to do.
