Quote : | "Lately Chrome has absolutely been shitting the bed on youtube videos
I've reinstalled flash, no dice" | Chrome uses its own bundled copy of Flash; to use the system version, go to about:plugins, click "Details" and disable the copy of Flash ending in gcswf32
if that's all you have, download this and install it: http://fpdownload.adobe.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player.exe Also get this, for external apps that use IE's variant of Flash: http://fpdownload.adobe.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player_ax.exe and if you're one of the kewl kidz, try out the beta of Flash 10.3, now with Control Panel applet: http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/flashplatformruntimes/flashplayer10-3/
BTW, Chrome got two small updates today (to 10.0.648.134 and then to 10.0.648.151), which just updates its own copy of Flash (to 10.2.154.25, before anyone else gets that version), so that may help too: http://www.informationweek.com/news/security/vulnerabilities/showArticle.jhtml?articleID=229301202&cid=RSSfeed_IWK_All

Check your AdBlock subscriptions, it may be a false positive with an element-hiding rule, possibly looking for anything with an ID of "banner"
Also, consider switching to Adblock Plus, it's now just as good at blocking content and it works faster with lower up-front overhead. 3/23/2011 12:45:38 AM |

i would like it if chrome had an IE9 like interaction with the task bar. where you could pin individual tabs and shit. it'd be pretty friggen sweet to pin a gmail tab to the task bar and have an unread count on the icon. 3/25/2011 5:49:27 PM |
lewisje All American 9196 Posts user info edit post |
There may be an extension for that; I know Opera has one for JumpLists called LikeIE9 3/25/2011 6:40:27 PM |
puck_it All American 15446 Posts user info edit post |
good call... i looked into that. there's an extension that lets you bring up jump lists when you navigate to a site. nothing that brings the functionality to the taskbar itself.
you can create a shortcut if you install the gmail app, puts a pretty little gmail icon pinned to the task bar, if you open a window it goes to the lower quality favicon. which, you can have display unread messages. it just looks like shit, and requires a popup-like (no navigational stuff/tabs) window to be open.
Ultimately, I guess what I'm looking for would be the gmail app from chrome store to run in background and give an unread count on the task bar, even when chrome windows are closed (in addition to the HTML5 desktop notifications). i bet it would be doable... i think it would be something people would use, too. 3/25/2011 8:21:13 PM |

gah every time I try to use Chrome for an extended period of time I just end up going back to FF. It's a POS. On my desktop half the time it crashes when I try opening it with 8+ tabs. Sure it might be due to flash but still. I have loading issues with scrolling, and my three finger gestures don't work on my MBP. Sticking with FF 4.

Yeah it's been happening on my home desktop on Windows 7, my work laptop on XP, and my Macbook Pro (as well as Win7 on parallels on my Macbook Pro haha). Maybe it's a particular site I go to, or maybe I'm just too badass for it but I keep wanting to like it and keep going back to FF. 4/4/2011 9:21:40 PM |

Yeah, adobe stopped supporting mobile flash so there's really no point I guess. Google said chrome.will eventually become the stock android browser, as it matures.
There's some little tweaks that need to be made, but its got great potential 2/8/2012 8:32:17 AM |

Hey guys, hopefully this is a starting point for my question. Didn't really want to create a separate thread.
I'm trying to display a real-time schedule in kiosk mode on a 46" LED.
Unfortunately, the particular scheduler is lacking in functionality because it requires a manual refresh when an event is added. I'm trying to set this up so that no interaction is necessary to start and continue the process.
Auto reload extensions have not been successful as they all seem to require some user interaction. Same with using javascript in a bookmark.
Can I somehow edit this to not prompt for a timeout and force it to go to the scheduler's url instead of setting location.href?
javascript: timeout=prompt(“Set timeout [s]“); current=location.href; if(timeout>0) setTimeout(‘reload()’,1000*timeout); else location.replace(current); function reload(){ setTimeout(‘reload()’,1000*timeout); fr4me=’<frameset cols=\’*\’>\n<frame src=\”+current+’\'/>’; fr4me+=’</frameset>’; with(document){write(fr4me);void(close())}; } 2/9/2012 12:52:31 PM |

i keep going back and forth between loving chrome and being annoyed by it
today's issue: it reacts strangely to some javascript that works just fine on every other browser
every day's issue: why do you keep asking me if it's okay to run the logmein app when i keep selected "yes, run every time"? what about this confuses you?
i'll frequently go back to firefox and remember why i love it...and then it will hog/leak memory like a mofo and i'll realize it's not as zippy in general

i wouldn't hold that against chrome. pick any browser and you'll have that problem somewhere.
though, admittedly, firefox usually doesn't choke on javascript developed to work on multiple browsers, but i wonder how much of that is because most devs rely heavily on firebug when developing.]2/12/2012 5:56:18 PM |

I think the guy who posted this meant FF10 but still Quote : | "On my desktop half the time it crashes when I try opening it with 8+ tabs. Sure it might be due to flash but still." | 1. Go to chrome://flags 2. Enable "click-to-play." 3. In the Options menu, go to Plugin options and select "click-to-play." 4. ??? 5. PROFIT2/12/2012 11:48:49 PM |

maybe, though firefox has never given me a problem
today's java related issue: if i'm using logmein and hit CTRL+T for a new tab in the client's computer, it makes my local version of chrome open a new tab...from that point forward, all key presses are as if i'm holding down CTRL (so if i hit "p" on the client computer, it opens up the print dialog)
you could blame logmein, maybe, but i don't have these issues with firefox or IE2/13/2012 10:47:45 AM |

i didn't see a general firefox thread and i don't particularly care to make one...but chrome was just too annoying to keep using as my "main" browser...my solution to:
Quote : | "i'll frequently go back to firefox and remember why i love it...and then it will hog/leak memory like a mofo and i'll realize it's not as zippy in general" |
is to use the memory restart add-on: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/memory-restart/
you can have it restart firefox automatically (though i don't because i'm sure that would annoy me), but it DOES give you a handy button that stays green until the memory usage gets above a user-set value (500mb is the default, though i set mine to 850mb or something)...it then turns red and you can just click it to restart firefox (and you don't lose your active cookies)
restarting FREQUENTLY halves the memory usage

what did you find annoying about Chrome?
Flash wonkyness is the only thing that occasionally bothers me (and only very occasionally). I was frustrated as shit with Firefox after the 20th website I went to that didn't render correctly. Not to mention, even compared to IE8, Firefox is slowwwww to render pages. 3/4/2012 2:45:41 PM |

issues with flash and javascript which may or may not be the causes of my third complaint, the fact that i keep getting "aw snap" or "i'm dead, jim" (or whatever) page crashes on the reg
i'd blame the sites were it not for the fact that i have no trouble with the same page in FF and IE
Quote : | "I was frustrated as shit with Firefox after the 20th website I went to that didn't render correctly." |
thankfully i've yet to have a problem with a site rendering incorrectly in FF but perfectly in IE and chrome...i don't have this problem with any regularity in ANY browser in particular
Quote : | "Not to mention, even compared to IE8, Firefox is slowwwww to render pages." |
chrome is the fastest of the big three that i use (IE, FF, chrome)...and while it's noticeably faster than the other two, i don't notice FF being significantly slower UNTIL the memory leaks get the better of it
restarting FF on the reg (which is agree i should not HAVE to do to make it functional) fixes that problem because i'm made aware of the problem before it becomes a problem in the first place
i should note that i leave 2 windows (with 15-20 tabs between them) open for days on end...i get the chrome crash issues after a day or two, about the same time that i get significant FF leak issues
IE isn't an option because FF and chrome are more functional for my purposes3/5/2012 9:02:46 AM |
