since someone was talking about the former spinoff. here's the latest from aziz (http://azizisbored.tumblr.com/post/70834003/latest-on-the-untitled-schur-daniels-poehler)
Quote : | "LATEST ON THE UNTITLED SCHUR/DANIELS/POEHLER PROJECT
I’m really sick and going to bed, but today myself, Rashida Jones, and Amy Poehler finally discussed our new (still untitled) NBC show we’re doing with Greg Daniels and Mike Schur from “The Office” with the TCA (Television Critics Association).
You can Google around for a bunch of news stories, but here’s the the jist of it.
- The show takes place at the Parks and Recreation Department of a small town in Indiana, where Leslie Knope (Amy) is the head.
- I play Tom Haverford, her co-worker/underling. I’m smart and capable, but I’m also one of those douches that’s really into ‘networking’ and making ‘power moves.’
- Rashida plays Ann Logan. Her boyfriend gets hurt when he falls in this empty construction pit and she comes to our department to get the hole fixed. Leslie decides it will be her special project to turn the pit into a park.
- Aubrey Plaza, who I’ve also been working with on “Funny People,” plays an intern that works in our office.
- Vin Diesel plays Xander Cage, a.k.a. xXx, a law-breaking extreme sports enthusiast, with a propensity for rebellious behavior. After crashing a senator’s Corvette for banning extreme sports, Xander is given a choice by the NSA to work for them or serve a prison term for his misdeeds. He grudgingly chooses government employment and he becomes an undercover extreme superspy.
The show premieres Thursday, April 9th at 8:30PM." |

they seem to be doing their best to make us all forget that there was ever anything between Jim and Pam. like, you know.... they're engaged and Jim just bought a house and everything. I guess any week now they'll insert some kind trumped up drama to get us all interested again.
btw, wtf happened to Ryan? Is he still there? .... why is he a leading character again (yes, yes, i know he is a producer and writer) 1/22/2009 9:50:49 PM |

Dwight using his hand as a shark fin made me lol. The whole thing at Prince Paper seemed kinda meh. The Hilary Swank thing had a few moments (Stanley's speech stands out), but overall it seemed like nothing really happened in this episode.

here's what I don't understand. 1) why didn't everyone immediately want to ask michael and dwight for their votes as soon as they came in? and 2) after michael "voted", why didn't the losing team ask dwight? 1/23/2009 7:10:48 PM |

^^was posted while watching the episode on Hulu...
After seeing the whole thing... Pretty much the only good parts were the dwight-michael interactions in the car near the beginning. The in-office debate was pointless and completely unfunny... the dwight/michael spying mission looked like it would build up to something funny but then just ended up being mildly depressing. It's like they didn't have anything planned that's actually relevant to the plot of the series, so they just forced the character's personalities to interact somewhat randomly with all the others...

^^^Yeah that's what I just realized, there was absolutely nothing that tied in at all to any episodes past or present, it did not move the plot along in any way whatsoever. If it wasn't for the absence of Ryan this episode could have aired in any given season and fit the same as it did for this one.
It's like they have a certain number of generic throw-away episodes they can throw in anywhere when they have some writers block or just want to sit the season on idle...
but one part I found funny anyway:
Pam: We don't even give [Kevin] full Internet access.
Kevin:...........wait, what?

The episode was definitely a filler but that's what you tend to get with the way executives run shows. There are way too many episodes per season for almost every show. I honestly think that comedies should all be between 10-15 episodes/season and the audience would be more appreciate with strong plots and jokes and still leave us wanting more. 1/24/2009 12:13:51 PM |

Quote : | " The Office Slacks in Advance of a Very Special Episode 1/23/09 at 10:30 AM
This year's Super Bowl was supposed to lead into the new Office spinoff with Amy Poehler and Rashida Jones. But the show fell behind schedule: It doesn’t have a name yet, and, in fact, doesn’t even seem to be an Office spinoff anymore. So that post–Super Bowl spot is being filled by a special hour-long episode of The Office, featuring Jessica Alba, Jack Black, and Cloris Leachman. Let's hope it makes up for this very “blah” 30 minutes.
Basically, we take a time-out from the ongoing plot lines. The two stories — Michael and Dwight “spy” on a rival paper company, and the rest of the office has a mock trial to decide whether or not Hilary Swank is “hot” — have nothing to do with each other or anything else that’s happened all season. No references to the Andy-Dwight-Angela triangle, or Pam and Jim’s passive-aggressiveness. It exists outside of Scranton space and time. It’s the definition of filler.
Which would have been fine, had it been funnier. Michael and Dwight's encounter with Prince Paper — a mom-and-pop that Dunder Mifflin wants to take over — tells us nothing new (Michael’s not evil, but yes, he is spineless). And the Hilary Swank riff sounds like a conversation B.J. Novak (writer of this episode) had with himself at a party and submitted as a backup script. That said, Michael’s reaction to hearing his that Prince Paper rival had started his company after returning from Vietnam — “Oh, I hear it’s just lovely there” — almost made it all worth it.
There’s no episode next Thursday, in advance of the Super Bowl. The last time NBC showed the big game was in 1998, when a very special Third Rock From the Sun followed, featuring cameos by Cindy Crawford, Angie Everhart, and Greg Gumbel. Before that, in 1996, came the infamous Friends episode with Brooke Shields, Chris Isaak, Jean-Claude Van Damme, and Julia Roberts. Perhaps The Office will do better." |

ok, well the cat in the ceiling was still good, as was the rest of the opening.
And they changed the opening titles, for the first time in 5 years! It's great to see all the other characters get top-billing. I wonder if that means they're all officially moved to the main cast, instead of secondary characters (i.e. would be a huge pay increase for all of them) 2/1/2009 10:47:03 PM |
