the way the chase is set up, it rewards consistency (no DNFs and top 10 average finish etc.) over the "regular season" and then rewards winning during the chase. it's kinda like they're saying "ok, we've seen that you can finish near the front consistently, but now we're gonna see if you can pull out wins when you absolutely have to. it's somewhat like the regular season/playoff system in most other sports.

I thought this was why they went to the chase in the first place.

First of all Matt Kenseth won the championship with only one win in 2003, even though he was the most consistent driver, dominated the points, and won the Winston. This to go along with Kenseth not being one of Nascar's popular drivers and a sponsor change, gave Nascar the opportunity to change the system resulting in the Chase in 2004.

well its just like clint bowyer in years past. hes made the chase every year, and he has 2 career wins. he stays out of trouble, keeps the car clean, is a good driver, and doesnt take risks. Hes probly my 4th favorite driver
