Joel Coliseum was rocking. Pretty good place to watch a game.

Really? It looked and sounded like garbage on tv until the last 5 minutes when wake went up 8 right after we cut it to 2.

We lost today because McCauley and Costner can't play inside against school girls.

Every time costner touches it inside, I cringe. If he's not running the pick 'n pop, he's a turnover or badly missed shot waiting to happen.

McCauley, at least I used to like him taking it inside because he would make good decisions, but there were at least 3 times tonight where he had Teague or LD williams guarding him and couldn't fucking back them down.

Fells I'm giving a pass tonight b/c he got in foul trouble early, but he didn't have a good game.

I'm glad we didn't get run tonight. Wake is really damn good at home. We tried to switch defenses up on them and it didn't work this time. It happens. If not for a 6 minute stretch in the first half where we missed 5 layups and had several airballs, I think we could have won but the 15 point deficit was too much against a good team who is even better at home. Whatever. I didn't expect to in tonight, but I'm a little more nervous about the last 3 games than I was. We need to win at least 2 of them.

I'm optimistic for next season. I couldn't say that just last month. And to be honest at this point our upperclassmen (Fells/Costner/McCauley) just aren't getting it done. Costner was not very good this game or the last game.

and just in case he is reading ..

Brandon Costner: Stop trying to do tomahawk dunks when you have an easy layup, especially on the road against #13 team in the nation.

yeah what the fuck on missing 2 dunks in as many games. The miss against UVA was a game changer for them. Tonight it didn't matter but still.

you do realize his grandfather passed away a few days before the UVA game right? Not only that, he hurt his wrist in that same game and you are bitching about him not playing well. Don't be a fucking retard.

I was there. That place has definitely gotten a hell of a lot louder in recent years. I used to go when I was a kid, and it felt more like going to church than going to a basketball game. I guess having a good team to cheer for helps.

The game frustrating to an extent -- we played such shitty defense in the interior and missed shots we usually make on offense, but still were RIGHT there until about the 1:30 mark. If we box out, take some charges, and hit a few easy shots (and make our dunks, Costner) who knows?

But looking at the bigger picture, I'm pretty satisfied. This team could have folded after going down 15 early, but they fought back against a team that was (a) much better than them, and (b) getting all the breaks. Despite our team's faults, they're competing with every team they play. That's about as much as you can ask for, I suppose.

^^ Read more scrupulously. Wake Forest is a better team than we are. Brandon Costner is our leading scorer on the team, and he was before his funeral he has to attend. My prayers and thoughts go out to him and his family. Having said that, this is sports talk, where we talk sports.

Think about that real long and hard. Brandon Costner is our leading scorer.

He's wretched on defense, slow on offense, gets ~80% of his points shooting threes (bright spot, he can hit some 3s), turns the ball over like it is his job, commits fouls like it is his job and has to work overtime, etc...

^Agreed. The only time Costner seems effective is when he spots up for a 3, gets a pass for an easy layup, or miraculously gets an offensive board with a put-back opportunity. I love the guy, but he's just not quick enough to create his own shot without getting into trouble.

Yes the team is improving, and I must say i have enjoyed watching State play the past 4 games then i have the rest of this season.

Yes, Maryland, BC and Miami will be tough but they are all in reach..the fat lady has not sung yet...oh and my one point of advice to the mens team going into Sunday's game against MD...

STOP SHOOTING SO MANY GODDAMN THREE POINTERS AND TAKING THE MOTHERFUCKING BALL INSIDE!!

Other than that I liked how most of the game with....compared to how we looked the beginning of the season-as opposed to how the bulk of our team is playing now lets put this WF game behind us and make damn sure we have the RBC center rocking on Sunday and give MD and Vasquez the much needed asss whoopin they deserve!! GO PACK!!

Costner should have went to NBA two years ago because he was much more effective two years ago.

He would *start* out posting up then pop out. The bigger guy guarding him couldn't match up with the versatility of his game. He also took care of the ball much better. Now, he is just a slow perimeter player who can't handle the ball well enough to slash to the basket.

Costner was also a rebounding machine when we made our run at the end of the year.

it is a very interesting crowd. They seemed to quiet down and really watch the game during play and as soon as the whistle blew or a TO was called they would erupt. And the constant loop of Zombie Nation was out of control. Good experience, although traffic getting out is a cluster fuck.

I'm a little confused as to why we don't post Costner up more often--especially when we are running the big lineup. I can't imagine that too many teams are running a 6'9" small forward that can match up with him. If Lowe likes to exploit matchups, that seems like a no brainer.

I wasn't specifically talking about Wake because I unfortunately didn't get to watch much of the game last night. Just an observation I have made because I do remember his freshman year when we would get Costner posting up players more often.

My memory is fuzzy because it was two years ago, but didn't McCauley and Costner play some of the same high/low sets that we are running now with Smith and McCauley?

I will miss all three of those guys... Especially McCauley and Fells. I like the fire Ben plays with and defensive intensity that Fells brings to the table.

Costner is a bit too much of a headcase for my liking, but when he is on, I think he is one of the best players in the country. Plus, I think the way he gets boned by the refs on a continual basis is a fucking crime. The guy cannot buy a call on the offensive end and gets more ticky tack bullshit called on him than anyone I have seen. Frankly, I wish he would just start slamming people hard so that he at least earns his fouls.

All of you bashing Costner about his defense do realize that he had three crucial blocks in the game, a couple of them on James Johnson. The guy he was guarding (Aminu) didn't really have that great of a game. Also all of you will realize that we will miss Costner (maybe not his missed dunks though)

There is a reason why fells often plays the "1" in our box and 1 and he nearly always covers their best shooter. He is probably the hardest worker on D we have.

And ^^ I agree with a lot. CJ Williams is getting pretty good on the D side too for a freshman.

Fells and McCauley hustle you got to give them that.

I've probably been to 12 games in the last 2 seasons at wake, only about 4 this year though. The atmosphere there sucks ass. Any of you that bitch about the RBC center should go watch a game at wake. Its a great stadium with shitty fans. They put between 10 and 14000 in there for most ACC games and the lower bowl is always full for those games, and nobody makes noise....only near the end or when they dunk the ball and go on a little run. Timeouts by the other team kill the crowd there worse than anywhere in the country.

The sad thing is that it can get really loud in there, it just doesn't unless what I just described happens, or they play that fucking zombie nation loop and my ears bleed.

Anyone complaining about the noise at the rbc center is only comparing it to Reynolds or cameron. I do wish we could put more people in the stands down low, but we do a damn good job even when its not full.
