Here in Detroit they've already been making excuses on the radio the past few days.

"The refs are going to be looking to call penalties on the Wings when Crosby and Malkin are on the ice."

and my favorite

"Gary Bettman wants the Pens to win this one."

I hope the Pens tear 'em apart.

Does no one on Bylsma's team watch tape? The Wings have been using the boards in the Joe to their advantage for YEARS.

did anyone just hear the pierre and the announcer get heated with eachother on the air???

that was awesome...

pierre is spot on about the Pens not being far from getting wins against the wings.

The whole thing started because Talbot shot Osgood in the stomach with an M-16.

Also, Colin Campbell has rescinded Malkin's automatic suspension, so he'll play in Game 3.

I actually don't think Osgood dove. It looked like he was trying to squeeze everything because the puck was between his arm and his pads and if he moved at all it may have fallen out, hence he wasn't really ready to push back against someone or lean against the post for support.

all pittsburgh did at the end there was give detroit more of a reason to not relax being up 2-0 in the series... that on top of detroit already being a bunch of veterans who know better anyways

datsyuk please return soon and run these babies over

Jacques Martin is leaving the Panthers GM spot to coach the Habs. Nice of him to leave his team a couple of weeks before the draft with quite a few holes

Won't matter if the Penguins can't score more than 1 goal. Yeah, he let in a couple softies, but if the Peguins offense was doing it's job, both games should have at least gone to OT.

If you're really trying to keep complete control of the puck, a little push from a stick isn't going to knock you over. You'd suck up tighter and sit down in your butterfly to absorb the push, maybe, but not fall over.

its not like the Pens offense hasn't been close...they've had tons of good scoring chances and just havent had the puck bounce their way in a lot of cases. Couple that with Osgood playing well and it's easy to put the blame on the offense.

i think the difference is that Pittsburgh is having to work a lot harder for their scoring chances, while Detroit is putting it past Fleury, even from the top of the circle on a softie (Cam Ward round 3 style)

Pens firepower alone keeps them in discussion for now, but if they drop a game at home you might as well hand the cup to the wings.

the Final has been shit hockey. each team is so proficient at defense that garbage goals are all there is to be had. seeing Detroit win makes it that much worse.

Quote :
"The Florida Panthers may soon have a collection of new owners if a $240-million (U.S.) offer from Sports Properties Acquisition Corp. makes its way to the NHL’s board of governors.

The Panthers, their arena management company and some land surrounding the BankAtlantic Center are all part of a deal that would see SPAC, a public-stock company, conclude its first transaction since being formed last year.

Sources have confirmed the Panthers ownership group and SPAC have been in negotiations for more than a month and have reached an agreement. There are few details but, according to a recent report in the SportsBusiness Journal, the deal may involve a merger between SPAC and Sunrise Sports & Entertainment, with current Panthers owners (Alan Cohen, Bernie Kosar, etc.) receiving stock in Sports Properties.

...

SPAC was launched by New York financier Andrew Murstein in 2008, with plans to purchase a professional sports team. Murstein assembled a board of directors that included Hall of Fame baseball player Hank Aaron, former New York governor Mario Cuomo and Tony Tavares, the man who oversaw the Montreal Expos before they became the Washington Nationals.

Through an untold number of investors, SPAC raised $215-million in its initial public offering and had looked into buying the NHL’s Montreal Canadiens and baseball’s Chicago Cubs.

“It’s a great time to be sitting with a lot of cash because everybody is having a liquidity crunch these days, and nobody has financing,” Murstein was quoted as saying last summer.

SPAC had also shown an interest in the Phoenix Coyotes, but were scared away by the Glendale, Ariz., lease arrangement and potential legal battles that could drag on for months. In accordance with U.S. federal securities rules, SPAC has until Jan. 17, 2010, to complete a transaction or the money it raised must be returned to the shareholders.

...

Their arena, the BankAtlantic Center, is a thriving facility positioned to be the hub of a development plan that would see 139 acres of adjoining land used for hotels, restaurants, bars and theatres. The new area would be known as the City of Oz."

LOL

Pittsburgh with a full 30 second shift with 6 skaters on the ice, and the officials never noticed. They had 4 guys down near the net and 2 at the point.

they should really consider paying referees instead of just taking volunteers from vegas

but really, even without being biased towards a certain team, the officiating in this years playoffs has been shitty all around

over 20 seconds of 6 attackers IN THE ZONE (not just a mix up near the bench) missed by 4 officials would be inexcusable and a disgrace in the regular season

let alone the Stanly Cup finals

yes, those 20 seconds were a disgrace, but the overall officiating has been fine

hochuli's incomplete pass call was a disgrace, but his crew was still the best crew in the NFL last year
