I have to know how bad Forslund was resisting recreating his goal call on Weekes' save there.

The NHL's explanation

Quote :
"Inside the Situation Room: No goal for 'Canes

BOSTON -- Carolina's Chad LaRose thought he had given his team a 3-0 lead with less than three seconds remaining in the second period when he roofed a rebound of a Dennis Seidenberg shot off the underside of the crossbar behind Boston goalie Tim Thomas.

But referee Dan O'Halloran immediately signaled no goal, even as the Hurricanes celebrated and time expired. The puck came straight down after hitting the cross bar and O'Halloran ruled the entire puck never crossed the goal line, which is the criteria for a goal in the NHL. Any part of the puck touching any part of the goal line means no goal.

After a lengthy review by the situation room in Toronto, there was no clear and compelling evidence to show that the entire puck had indeed crossed the goal line.

"This review was as difficult as we get," said Mike Murphy, Senior Vice President of Hockey Operations. "It took so much time because we need conclusive proof (to change a no-goal or goal call made on the ice). Even with all those tight (and high-definition) views, I could not conclusively say that the puck was entirely across the goal line."

Murphy said the net twine partly obstructed an overhead view on both the Versus and TSN telecasts that might have prompted some fans to speculate LaRose had scored.

"As the overhead camera view is enhanced, both the red line and the white ice become more blurred and the net meshing becomes more of an obstruction," said Murphy. "After looking at it numerous times from several different angles, I can't say with 100 percent certainty that the puck was completely over the line."

The ruling gave Boston a little bit of life as it headed immediately to the locker room to regroup after falling behind 2-0 in a dominating second period by the Canes, who got goals from Joe Corvo and Matt Cullen. It also revved up the Bruin crowd, which was booing the team just moments earlier for an ineffective power play.

Carolina was clearly disappointed in the ruling, trudging to the dressing room. But, the team has to be buoyed by the fact that they are the first club to have a lead against Boston after the first period in these playoffs"

If you see the top end of the puck and the bottom end equidistant from the red line, then if you see any white ice in between black and red, it should have been a goal. Their explanation sucks.

this team is exciting.

I remember earlier in the season when we weren't doing so well I kept thinking "Why aren't we winning?? Look at who we have....Ruutu, Staal, Whitney, Samsonov, Cullen, Corvo, Pitkanen. This line-up has some potential to be really exciting". So far it hasn't been completely obvious this series, but you have to remember we're playing Boston. We've definitely had some real strong shifts the past few games that have shown we can play with this team.

Let them keep hitting us (and punching and kicking us...Lucic) but as long as we give them a few shots (thank you ryan bayda) and scoring some goals I'm fine with that.

and larose took a page out of mark johnson's 1980 playbook with his goal.

not exactly the same....but pretty similar

Dude what kind of bubble do you live in? 99% of hockey fans don't have a clue who anybody you listed except Staal and Whitney are. Let's not pretend like we have all-world talent because that's not the case. Also you failed to include Cam Ward in your list which is unforgivable.

oh ok, keep defending a list of our best players that doesn't include our Conn Smythe trophy winning goalie...I'm sure hockey fans everywhere know Tuomo Ruutu and Joe Corvo's stats by heart.

that line up i mentioned is chock full of talent.

ruutu had a damn good start in chicago, and he was on some covers of nhl 06 in england.

whitney's had a solid career, he's not called the wizard for nothing

staal doesnt need an explanation

samsonov had several really solid years with the b's....and was rookie of the year in '97

cullen has flourished in carolina (although somewhat limited from injuries)

plus cam was not very consistent during our downtime earlier this season (albeit partly due to our shitty play), he really started to turn on his game toward the end of the year, along with the foremention

and you won't find many defenseman more offensively talented than pitkanen and corvo, they can do some pretty sweet things with the puck

with those players alone you would've thought we would've had much more firepower than we did

and my post was focused on firepower, excitement, and scoring, which was why ward was omitted.

plus wardo's game was struggling when we were in that slump (albeit partly due to the teams overall shitty play). he really became much more consistent and better towards the end of the year, along with the rest of the team. we haven't seen as many of those "soft" goals that we were seeing earlier.

contrary to popular belief, there are other talented players in the league besides malkin, semin, crosby, and ovy
